Why didn't Taylors people accept a deal for a rematch with Chavez early then it happened? Remember Chavez was all for the rematch.

exactly!! before a ref decides to stop a fight should he look to see how much time is left? NO!

it's great to see there are people here that see it as it was and IS.....a GREAT comeback....

i agree, steele made the good call. i've always said that if u had another 10-15 seconds on that clock, and taylor would have been knocked out cold and maybe seriously injured.

Steele didnt know how much time was left, so he called it.

HOWEVER, u cannot blame anybody for being mad at the call. ur fighter is seconds away from a sure victory, and to have the REF, of all people, rip the fight away from him in the final 5 seconds of the fight, is not only devestating, but heart breaking!!!

There wasn't enough time for Chavez to land another punch. Dude there was 2 Seconds left... 2 SECONDS. That's not even enough time for Chavez to even walk over to Taylor, let alone land a punch.

          The fight was essentially over.

But it doesn't matter, everyone knows Taylor was the better man that night, and gave Chavez a boxing lesson.

I think the magnatitude of the fight it shouldnt stop it at that time.

Taylor was ahead on points at the same time he stand i think it was 6 and Steele told he if he was okay he shook his head.

You really should watch the fight, who knows how Taylor got all busted up in the face.

This is one of the things that bugs me when people try and talk about this fight. Richard Steele did not ruin his life CHAVEZ RUINED HIS LIFE with those punches. The guy had it beaten out of him that night. He took one of the worst beating in the history of the sport and people act like it was just a one punch KO that did it and Chavez got lucky.

Its not the refs job to keep time. Steele asked Taylor if he was ok TWICE and Taylor did nothing, whats he supposed to do?

Steele asked him twice. "Are you alright? Are you alright?" And Taylor didn't respond, therefore he was knocked out. Chavez SCORED a knockout with two seconds left, just like in football when a team SCORES a touchdown at the last second, they win. So Chavez won fair and square.
