The problem with the heavyweights is that these fighters are protected from one another. Don King specifically goes to great lengths to prevent his fighters from taking risky defenses. Also the various belts's rankings are a joke. The mandatory defenses some of these guys have to face are cakewalk fights.
Something needs to happen soon. Boxing needs to be cleaned up to the point where the best fight the best at least half the time. If Peter truly fights and beats Maskaev and then Valuev this year, things will be looking a lot better. As far as I'm concerned, Wlad, Maskaev, Peter, Valuev, and Lyakovich are the champions right now with Wlad being the most respected. If Peter beats Maskaev and Valuev within the next 6 months, while Lyakovich goes after Wlad, we could realistically have a heavyweight unification showdown sometime in 2007.
