Unlike you Bert Sugar has seen Chavez through out his career not just in the late 90's.

i see from your bio that your only 23, so you couldn't have seen his entire career which consisted largely of fighting guys who were barely journeyman either. so you agree that he should be in the 17th spot? in front of so many other more deserving fighters? i guess what bert sugar says is gospel huh?

Carlos Monzon is stunningly low. He beat Griffith once, Benvenutti twice and was the middleweight champ for a decade. I have seen him in the top ten on many lists. Bert usually has a good reason for this stuff, I would be curious to see what he writes.

I know his career and know the fighters his fought. I've seen many of his fights, not just the one in the nintites. Chavez would give any fighter hell and beat good competition.

An over the hill, and i mean over the hill. Roger Mayweather went 12 rounds with Koysta Tszyu. Chavez beat him in 2, and in 10 when Mayweather was in his prime. Chavez tko'd Angel Hernandez in 5, Koystay Tszyu years later beat him in 7. Chavez beat tougher opponets then you know.

Bert Sugar ain't the only one who has ranked Chavez highly in an All-Time great list.

Why is Chavez ranked lower than Whitaker when Whitaker emberrased him. I have never seen the fight this is just what I hear. I also think De La Hoyas resume is better and hes not even listed.

Because his career is not based on a draw with Whitiker, that took place when Chavez was 31 and Whitiker was 29 or less.

If you've havn't seen the fight then say so in first sentence. And the fight is all over the internet, just download the fight. Whitiker fouled a lot to slow down Chavez. It was no embarresment.

I still thought Bert Sugar was too generous to put Chavez on his top 20. Jofre should be ahead and in top 20 and so does Archie Moore and McLarnin. LaMotta is too high.

You got your opinion. Chavez was around for a long time being the top fighter for many years. Not just fights, wars. Chavez is like an old school fighter hes fought 8 times a year or more. He's defended his title a few times a year we don't see that today. No fighter tody can match Chavez body work. I dont know if their will be another like that for some time. Chavez was a all time great, Bert Sugar aint' the only one to rate Chavez highly.
