[QUOTE=ICEMAN JOHN SCULLY]
Right, there's no succession of champs anymore, simply because they retire. But when three world titles are unified, then it's generally recognized in boxing (and has been for QUITE some time) as an undisputed champion. I think that's a pretty good litmus test for who is considered THE champion.
So you're saying that if you hold all the world titles (or 3 of them), then you aren't THE Champ? That's a weird view, Ice, but ok. So you're saying Judah was undisputed champion, Baldomir defeated him, and yet Judah's next opponent after the loss to Baldomir (Mayweather) was fighting for the Welterweight Championship? I've heard only two individuals with that point of view- you and Floyd. A view strange view. Basically you're saying that a champion is still a current champion even if he's defeated? That the guy who just defeated him in the championship fight (Baldomir) is not the champion? I don't know what to say to that. Except that it's 100% wrong. LOL
Sanctioning bodies are often corrupt, of course, we all know that. But we aren't talking about scattered belts held by several different fighters. We're talking about Judah-Baldomir, and when you get three world titles, and Ring Magazine, to agree that there's a champion at a certain weight class, then I think that fighter is a champion, and the guy that beats him is the champion (Baldomir). Period.
And no, you don't have to spar, take punches to the face, or spit in a bucket, to know that.
