I hate to say it, but right now boxing is waiting around for Don King and Bob Arum to die, then we can start to fix the sport.
The major problem with boxing is that the best promoter in the sport, is a complete low-down criminal. The major reasons why the alphabet organizations are able to ruin the sport is because these promoters are corrupt with no integrity, and are therefore will to promote a title match for a title that has no integrity.
Of course, Don King was a major supporter of the Bush campaign, so of course there is no help from congress to fix the sport either. Hopefully John McAin will be elected president one day, because he has been boxing's biggest political ally.
Dana White is right, boxing's promoters just aren't looking out for the sport, they are looking out for themselves.Comment

i like to watch competitive martial arts(with the exception of wushu form comps), but the amount of groundwork makes me limit just how much ufc i watch. for me, it's just something about a couple of guys, almost naked 90% of the time, looking like one is trying to **** the other - not that it's all grappling. don't get me wrong, i think bjj is an incredible groundfighting skillset, but it just doesn't entertain me to watch half as much as boxing, kickboxing, or san shou. pride fc is my personal favorite of all the major MMA venues as it has limits on it's groundfighting and seems to have more skilled strikers and better all around athletes.
i sure as hell do. it is really ****ing annoying. it shows a persons lack of knowledge though, so you can at least tell who knows what they're talking about.Anyone else get annoyed that everyone seems to think UFC = MMA? It annoys the **** out of me.Comment

It would take an all out classic UFC match to even compete with a good fight. Im not into UFC really, I just enjoy the Ultimate Fighter reality show. Its pretty boring once someone gets taken down. Sure the elbows to the face are brutal, not all that exciting though.Comment

in boxing talent and skills will produce champions. in mma, specifically ufc a little talent/skills and tons of luck will produce champions.
it is much better to watch a ****genous martial arts than a mix martial arts contest. this coming from a man who has backgrounds in taekwondo, judo and aikido.Comment

UFC and Pride are the same? At first glance, yes. But there are a few important differences in rules which can make one fighter better in one arena and really awful in another.Originally posted by Doc_Strange45Pride versus UFC? Who gives a ****. It's the same thing, both are great. Boxing deserves to lose it's fans to both because of the bull**** surrounding the sport, the lack of good fights, crooked promoters and lack of one sanctioning body. I love boxing but if there are not changes, it will be marginalized to the point of obscurity in 5 or 10 years.Comment

That was partially what I was getting at earlier in this thread.

I think boxing took a downward spiral when cable networks began to buy rights from the sanctioning bodies. You all remember when Sugar Ray Leonard would fight on network TV on a Saturday afternoon? That was big ratings back then. Boxing was so popular then that the average fan knew who Pepino Cuevas was.
Today, people only hear about who's on top and who's on a massive PPV event. Other than that, it's out of sight, out of mind.Comment
