the articles author makes it seem like peter is some endless windmilling power puncher who never stops throwing...which is not accurate. if i'm reading that the wrong way i apologize, but peter has been shown to reduce himself to one shot at a time. i believe he will be reduced to this in the later rounds once he eats about, oh, 200 clean counter shots.

toney isn't a big hitter by any means, but peter will start to feel the effects of being savagely countered if he is reckless enough.
A Toney detractor??? Just because I think he will lose this match doesn't take away from my general feeling that Toney is (or at least was) a great fighter, one who should be admired for a long and star-studded career. Toney is great but he, like all of us, is subject the the ravages of time. That's what I think will be the difference in this fight.

I didn't mean to call you a Toney detractor directly. I was trying to get across the point that we hear a lot of this general sentiment in your article from Toneys detractors on this site, only in more ignorant, less well informed ways.

As for thinking Peter will beat James, that's ones opinion and that's fine. I can see how Peters physical advantages and James' aged body would lead one to believe that. I think that we just saw a very badly conditioned, unfocused Toney against Rahman. I believe he has one last timeless performance left in his body. I hope I am right.

Fortunately we'll see a fight that will clarify all opinions.

exactly, that's why the article sucks for the forum; it may be OK for other purposes

With both fighters particular styles, I think that would be an unlikely outcome, but it's not a forgone conclusion. Something that holds Toney back is his punching power though. I have seen many people on this website SITE Toneys lack of "effective power" as a reason why they'd score rounds for Rahman. These being rounds where Toney landed significantly more CLEAN power punches in the round than Rahman. They maintained that Rahmans jabbing and "bodyshots" (a.k.a. back punches) were as effective as Toneys clean, right hand counters. The judges didn't see it that way, I didn't see it that way, but many others did.

I wonder if that'll get him into trouble in this affair as well. Will the judges score for Peters clubbing partially blocked punches that physically move Toney? Or will James' clean counters win him rounds?

Whichever way it goes I would prefer to see a KO. No doubts would remain.
