This guy is fighting the best of the best if he bets (he will) Ouma , wins the rematch with Winky and takes on all up and comers and a few old timers such as RJJ, Calzaghe etc could he be either the GOAT MW, or a top 10 GOAT of all time?
With the level of Comp Jermaine Taylor is fighting could be be the GOAT

yeah but arguably he could have 2 losses and no second fight with Bernard which would take away the legit win he does hold on him.He has held his own at a young age with the best out there no doubt though........I respect the guy but feel his first fight with Hopkins should have been a draw and fell that Winky beat him.......so don't want to overstate his greatness as of yet.He should be a force for years to come at maybe SMW or LHW so I am just looking forward to that.Comment

you can say that about any fighter really.."what if Hatton beats Cotto, Castillo, Corrales, Mayweather, etc...etc"
just assess what he has done and is currently doing...
has done: beaten Hopkins twice (regardless of whether some of us think he lost a fight or two...he still gets the official W)
has done: fought Hopkins twice BACK TO BACK
has done: fought Winky IMMEDIATELY after Hopkins
is doing: possibly fighting Ouma or Mora...he is on a good path...but has a ways to go...
Leonard established himself off of fighting Duran, Benitez and Hearns in such a short time, then getting Hagler...
Taylor already has Hopkins under his belt. Lets see what else he does while still young.Comment

taylor's win over nard did not convince anyone, he lost to winky IMO and has not not fought anybody worth mentioning. if he is to be goat he has not reached the level of bernard yet so i think this is an exaggeration from that boi.Comment

at age 27, taylor already has 2 wins over one of the greatest fighters of all time, and managed to look good against winky wright (although it was a losing effort IMO) who happens to be one of the greatest defensive fighters ever.
And i dont like it when people say hopkins was washed up. he clearly wasnt. He has a style that lets ur prime last into ur mid-30's.
pile on the fact that hopkins is a gym rat and trains non-stop, his prime could very well have lasted till a fight or 2 before the taylor fights and he slowly, very slowly, declined after that.
when hopkins fought taylor, he was basically celebrating his climb to the top of the hill, and starting the long journey downward.
i would like to say right now, that jermain taylor's GOAT status will be HIGHLY debated even if he goes on to demolish winky wright 2 more times (which isnt out of the question), destroy ouma and mora, fight quartey and/or forrest and beat them both, and beat lacy/calzaghe (it would be impossible to get all those fights to happen anyway, but u get my point)
the reason is because jermain taylor is far from a complete fighter. his footwork is mediocre at best. guys like marvin hagler, who many give the greatest middle weight award to, were very complete fighters.
The people who judge greatness on who u beat (me) would consider taylor an all-time great, but people who judge fighters on skills, completeness, and not on IN-RING acomplishments only, will not.Last edited by Kball15; 08-26-2006, 11:03 PM.Comment

If Taylor beat all those fighters GREATESTIAM mentioned then that is one hell of a resume. Jermain Taylor is the first fresh top contender Hopkins faced in many years, a true test and Hopkins failed. If Taylor had never appeared at middleweight Hopkins would still be Champion.Comment
