What's comical is that you think Ruddock was a world beater before he fought Tyson and completely shot after he fought him. That's what's funny - in order to justify your opinion of Tyson, you develop this ridiculously tortured logic to try to square with the facts - i.e. Tyson struggled with Ruddock while Lewis dismantled him easily.

I suppose you think Holyfield was a world beater before he beat Tyson, but completely shot after that. Or Tony Tucker, or Tyrell Biggs, or Frank Bruno, or Botha or any other opponent that Tyson fought before Lewis.

Face it, Mike in his prime was a great fighter, but he was never all that impressive against big guys with skills. And with a prime Lewis he would be going against one of the biggest and most skillful guys ever.
My "world beater" comment was not in reference to Ruddock, it was in reference to Phil Jackson, who you presented as a case to suggest that Ruddock wasn't a shot fighter by the time he got to Lewis. Also, Tyson really didn't have that much trouble against Ruddock, he basically won every round, it was Ruddock's toughness that impressed everyone, Mike battered him around the ring, knocking him down like 3 or 4 times, and Ruddock wouldn't lay down he kept coming. He demonstrated a toughness that we would never see from him again, plus Mike broke his jaw in their fights as well, so that may very well have had something to do with it.

Also I am not sure what your point is, but yes Lewis fought all of those fighters when they were past their peak, Tony Tucker was 35 years old and on the downside of his career. Tyrell Briggs, after eing throrooughly beaten by Tyson, KOed by Bowe, Gary Mason, and the lightly regarded Francesco Damani, was no longer a threat by the time Lewis got him. Mike Tyson defeated Frank Bruno twice in much better fashion than Lewis did. Also, I am still trying to figure out what a Francois Botha who was knocked out by Michael Moore and Mike Tyson previous to Lewis did for a title shot anyway? In his 3 fights previous to Lewis, he knocked out a bum named Steve Pannell, had a draw with Shannon Briggs(who Lewis already beat), which I thought Briggs won btw, and had a knock out lost to a Mike Tyson who fought him after a long layoff due to his suspension. As I said before, Lewis' resume really is not that impressive, you guys keep talking about him as if he were fightingin the 70's, and dominated the opposition. Also, Evander was undebateably past his peak when Lewis fought him as well, just look at his record after fighting Lewis, and even then he gave Lewis some problems in their rematch.

        lol.

You people act like Lennox couldn't fight.

If Tyson tried to attack him throwing hooking punches he'd run into a ****ing uppercutt, and get hurt.

There'd be no difference than when they fought at their older ages.

Apropos of nothing much, watching the fight that did happen against I'm always amazed at the HUGE size differential between them... Lewis looks like he's smacking his infant son around the ring.

Amusingly, the broadcast showed an "Instant AOL Poll" in the eighth round that revealed 5% of people thought Tyson was winning. Reminded me of a comment I got on YouTube once that Tyson would have won the rematch. It's a shame, but Tyson was never the same after he came back from jail.

I think many of Tysons opponents tried the uppercut and failed, that was an obvious strategy against Tyson. As was keeping him off with the jab, which Tyson would counter with his right or left hook. Or even his own jab.

I think the first round of Lewis - Tyson is interesting. Tyson applied pressure, and Lewis tried to survive knowing Tysons attack would grow steadily weaker as the fight grew on.
But Lewis did try and land uppercuts wen Tyson made a mistake.
They didnt seem to land, but Lewis was not just cautious, he was smart and waiting for Tyson to lung in and leave himself open.

Tyson at his peak was patient, and wouldnt have made such bad mistakes.

And Prime Tyson knew he would have had more than a couple of rounds in him.
