This is BS. Canelo never offered Beterbiev a fight. It was well know and well reported that Kovalev was the ONLY light heavyweight champion team Canelo wanted and team Canelo clearly said this. Beterbiev and the other two undefeated light heavyweight champions were NEVER even considered. Just aq few days ago Canelo said his coach does not want him fighting light heavyweights because they have too many advantages. Canelo fought Kovalev well over a year ago so why would it just come out today that Beterbiev supposedly turned down an offer to fight Canelo so long ago? Such an offer would have been big news and reported by the media that reports Canelo's every move. There was no offer made to Beterbiev to fight Canelo. Just BS over a year late. Kovalev was always the only target.Comment

Sorry guys. Not gonna work. He made his bed when he won the WBO title then decided to vacate and go down to 168. Saw the oldest and weakest champ available at 175 and went after him.Comment

Yes, it can be done, of you really want to do it. But if you just want to be able to say .. "we approached him, but ...."Comment

Reynoso and Canelo said they’d be interested on video long ago, before the Kovalev fight. Don’t feel salty that Iole disclosed they approached Beterbiev! Top Rank declined. Iole knew that context, no need to mention Gvozdyk since he knew thatComment

The Gvozdyk/Beterbiev fight was announced around the same time they were trying to make Kovalev, when Yarde had agreed to a step aside (iirc). This was all in Juneish, Julyish...I’d have to google all this s hit but ehh. The Kovalev/Canelo talks/rumors had even started months before that if you remember (earlier in the year)
I wouldn’t doubt Canelo’s team reached out, but Beterbiev did the right thing in not backing out of a presumed Gvozdyk negotiation. Way more important fight for the division. Much more on thr line than just “money”. Dare I say...even a tougher fight? That fight was a “hardcore” boxing fans dream at 175. I wish they had the fame they deserve. Gvozdyk lost but I was so impressed with both fighters. But thats another story.Comment
