    Klitschko-Maskaev Still a Possibility

According to a recent report by ESPN's boxing scribe Dan Rafael, a proposed bout between IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev, is still a possibility. The question is when the bout would actually take place. Physically, Maskaev is still recovering from his title winning effort against Hasim Rahman, which took place less than two weeks ago. Negotiations are still ongoing, and Shelly Finkel, advisor for Team Klitschko, is pressing for an answer. [details]

"Maskaev has been offered $5 million dollars for the bout, plus a sizable split of the television rights. He only made $1.5 million for his rematch with Rahman."

He should do it, Ill be rooting for him!

He should be in tip top shape in a couple months shouldn't he?

Great move by both...Maseav gets his huge payday and can retire afterward (if he loses) and Klitschko will have the IBF and WBC, basicaly solidifying him as the man. Then afterwards he can take on Laykovich

He should do it. $5M? That's serious money for Maskaev who was lucky to be on ESPN2 last year. He's not going to beat Wlad anyway, so he might as well cash in while the offer is there. He's in shape already (incredible shape for a 37 year old), so it's not like he needs a long camp once his little aches and pains are gone.

Do it Maskaev! Seriously, he doesn't need much training since he has to land some bombs to win anyway. Just do your running while everything heals! This would be a fun fight to watch!

This is great news. I know it's hip to say the Heavyweight division sucks, but there are a ton of interesting fights happening in it. Peter-Toney and Klitschko-Rahman make for a nice pair of fights this Fall.

I think this will be a career ending match for Maskaev. Also his back is injured. I think he might as well take it, and retire. If he wins I will be very surprised. He won't be able to wait for one big punch, and the 37 year old will break down from the accumulation of jabs and hooks from Wladimir.

we need the belts unified and this would be a huge step in the right direction because you KNOW Liakhovich will fight the winner. mad props for Shelly Finkel for trying to make this fight a reality.

Good point. Maskaev-Klitschko for unification, than Liakhovich to unify three belts would be hot. Only bum left out of the champs is Valuev.
