By Cliff Rold - Trends in sports can be coincidental but they're hard to ignore. For all the talk about A side this, and split that, the best in boxing are never just businessmen. They make a living now, as all professional athletes do, at a trade they once pursued for free. They are always competitors too. Following his masterful victory over Patrick Teixeira to win the WBO belt at Jr. middleweight, Brian

Most definitely not a lie. The best, more often than not, dont fight the best. Otherwise, we’d have more than just hopkins, taylor, crawford and Usyk over 31 years. Dont really care why. Its just not happening. The women seem to get it though. 4 within a decade?

I'll be happy for Jermell if he unifies with Brian Castano. Mell, really deserves it : Jermell has overcome set-backs since 2018 as he pursued his dream of unifying 154. Jarrett Hurd was the first barrier in Mell's quest, Hurd avoided Charlo and was shocked by Julian Williams. Then, Jermell had to set the record straight in his controversial loss to Tony Harrison.

In spite the numerous obstacles and delays in scheduling, Jermell 'Ironman' Charlo remained patient and finally triumphantly met his goal vs. IBF-WBA jr. middleweight champion Jeison Rosario.

Brian Castano has a similar road of upsets and setbacks in his career, like Charlo, Castano recently overcame adversity and is the new WBO 154 champion. Two solid prime champions, top of their class, cut from the same cloth, deserving of being called the jr. middleweight king.

It's much easier to do in women's boxing. Due to the lack of quantity and quality of the opponents.

Castiano Vs Charlo does it for me, but why not Betebiev/Bivol, Makabu/Goulamirian, or Inoue Vs Ouabaali? Beterbiev/Bivol surely sells out in Russia & I'm sure Makabu as a genuine road warrior would take the trip to France.

All they have to do is find someone decent for Jermall, and I'm ready to pay for another Charlo Double-Header PPV!

David Benavidez Calls Out Jermall Charlo For September
              Boxing News 24

              January 28, 2021:

By Sean Jones: David Benavidez has called out Jermall Charlo for a fight in September after hearing him comment about wanting to fight...

“We can make it happen in September if you’re really about it futureofboxing,” said David Benavidez on social media in calling out Jermall Charlo.

David Benavidez: I'm Extremely Open To Charlo Fight; More Exciting Than Me & Plant

              January 30, 2021:

Houston’s Charlo (31-0, 22 KOs) hasn’t announced that he will move up from middleweight to super middleweight, but Benavidez believes that the WBC 160-pound champion will do that later this year.

“Right now, I’m hearing Charlo’s gonna come up to 168,” Benavidez told BoxingScene.com. “Charlo’s been saying some stuff about me, so I’m open to fight whoever. If I can’t get Caleb Plant, if I can’t get Canelo Alvarez, you know, the next best thing is Charlo. If that can happen, we’re extremely open to making that happen.”

David Benavidez’s grudge match with Caleb Plant wasn’t as attractive to Plant once Benavidez lost his WBC super middleweight title at the scale August 14. Benavidez became a less appealing opponent for Canelo Alvarez as well when he was stripped of that title for a second time. Well aware that Plant and Alvarez are much more likely to face each other than him if they win their upcoming respective bouts with Caleb Truax and Avni Yildirim, Benavidez is focused on securing a showdown with Jermall Charlo.

Yup... If all the divisions mentioned in this article get unified and STAY unified, it will go a long way towards enhancing boxing’s appeal and credibility... Alphabet orgs should be ordering unifications instead of bull**** mandatories to help us get there.

Having 4 champs with separate belts looks ridiculous but seeing one guy with all of them mother****ers looks pretty cool.

Charlo-Castano is a great unification. I've heard a small bit of chatter about a PPV with this fight and the Spence-Ugas fight together. Not sure how true that is. As for the big Charlo brother there's nothing at 160 unless he can get in with GGG. So he should move up. I love the Benavidez fight but Charlo talking differently all of a sudden. If he wants to get a fight under his belt at 168 beforehand then maybe he could fight Dabiel Jacobs as a debut there.
