Roberto Duran weigh 132 when he won the lightweight title and let’s remember back in the 70’s it was same day weigh in so by today’s standard Duran would have been Champ at 126 to 160

If it’s at 160 I’d probably go with Martinez just cause of the size advantage, Mayweather probably walked around at like 155. Floyd is simply too small of a dude to beat the best at 160 IMO. He’s giving up too many physical advantages.

If it would have actually happened though Floyd would have definitely leveraged his A side advantages. It would probably be at like a 154 lb catchweight, with rehydration clauses and sh**. Floyd could probably win a decision under those sort of circumstances but it would still be a very tough fight for him.

i think you guys underestimate how much bigger martinez would ahve looked. i have seen both of these guys fight live. floyd against canelo in vegas and martinez against dzinziruk in Connecticut. they were separated by two weight classes at their best. martinez did his best work at 160 lbs and floyd was about 150 lbs walking around, according to himiself, pictures of his scale, and all of the people around him. martinez probably started camp for a championship fight at middleweight by dropping 20 lbs. that's a roughly 30 lb difference in walking around weights.

floyd would never fight at middleweight, and he shouldn't. just think about martinez' most meaningful victories. they were against big, strong guys. paul williams had a heavyweight reach and is 6'2". pavlik is 6'3" and punched like a heavyweight, probably walked into training camp over 200 lbs to get to 160 lbs on the scale, and then put another 10-15 lbs on overnight back to 175 in the ring. again, 150 lbs floyd in the ring

i think floyd would have accounted for himself well if the fight had atually been made, but you'd need to dangle half a billion in front of him to get him in the ring with a left handed middleweight with speed and power like martinez was in the renaissance years of his prime.

Martinez offered to come down to 150 - 154 and Floyd refused. I think Sergio frustrates him and gets the better of him. Floyd can't hurt him, Sergio will walk through his 30 punches per round, and Martinez has just enough speed and quickness to keep Floyd from getting into any sort of rhythm.

at that time, I remember thinking only two guys could give Floyd trouble

              Lara and Sergio Martinez

but Floyd wasnt ever going to fight those guys

It’s all about taking chances to be great.Duran -hagler and Oscar -Hopkins were much greater risks than money vs Martinez.Tell me again how moneys ball soup tastes.

Sergio never faced anyone the caliber of Floyd. Cotto would've knocked him out when he had good knees. There's levels and Martinez is well below Floyd and even Cotto. The size wouldn't help someone trying to outbox Floyd and not really using the size advantage. His length wouldn't help as much either since he wasn't really fast. He would've been pull countered all night.
Crazy. Cotto gets kod against a prime Martinez.. there is a reason he took the fight when he did

But Duran didn’t start as a pro at super featherweight either tho he was naturally bigger than Floyd.
