Comments Thread For: Hearn: Lara's KO Of Warrington 'Much Bigger Shock' Than Ruiz's Upset Of Joshua

The odds on the Josh Warrington-Mauricio Lara and Anthony Joshua-Andy Ruiz fights were comparable. Warrington and Joshua were more than 20-1 favorites entering those supposedly easy encounters, according to most Internet sports books. Eddie Hearn still was more shocked when Warrington lost to Lara Saturday night than when Ruiz upset Joshua in June 2019 at Madison Square Garden.

Joshua had more hype than Warrington, and he was making his debut in the U.S., at the historic Madison Square Garden! Plus the optics were horrible! We knew Ruiz was world class, but to the casuals, a fat Mexican beat the brakes off a Mandingo Warrior! They couldn't see it coming! Joshua's loss was more shocking!

Whatever you say to try to lessen the blow of Unranked Andy swooping in and making your golden goose quit.

Ruiz in shape (sorta) can beat AJ 3 out of 5, possibly 4.

Lara was more an upset since he is way more basic. I think he wins 1 out of 5 and only if warrington trades like he did.

More like 1 out of 10 for Ruiz. It was a single temple shot that beat AJ, Ruiz was knocked down for the first time in his career so AJ can stop him, your assessment seems naive at best and biased beyond belief at worst.
If AJ doesn't go close quarters with Ruiz where Ruiz's short arms give him a huge advantage, Ruiz has no chance of winning at all.

Lara is a heavy handed fighter who will knock out Warrington again if a rematch is made.
This fight is similar to Amir Khan vs Breidis Prescott.

Andy only just lost the WBO vs Parker (arguably he won) .

                Lara .. nothing really

so on paper this was worse. I'm not convinced by Lara even after that win but I'd love to see some more of a fit Ruiz.

                  Optics. Disagree.

A guy with Joshua's physique getting railed by a short, fat guy.

It'd be Fat Joe beating the hell out of The Rock.
