I gave him a B because of his win over Lewis. As heavyweight champions go he was average.

A win over Lennox Lewis is no small thing. I also love his recovery from a KD to defeat Corrie Sanders. A clean left from the Sniper is not something to be trifled with. Solid B.

I'd give him a C+. He was a great puncher but he lost a bunch of fights he shouldn't have and that can't be ignored. Had advantages against Tua, Maskaev etc and was up in those fights (from my memory) before getting himself caught. One of my last memories of him in the ring was when an older Toney was beating him to the punch.

Why though? Don't you think that's kind of toxic?

                  B-

                  2X heavyweight champion
WBC, IBF, IBO, Lineal Heavyweight Champion (b. Lewis, lost to Lewis)
WBC Heavyweight Champion (b. Barrett for vacant belt, defended in a draw against Toney, lost to Maskaev)

                  Record vs other champions
Beat: Lennox Lewis, Trevor Berbick, Corrie Sanders
Lost to: Oleg Maskaev x2, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, John Ruiz, Wladimir Klitschko

A draw and a no contest with James Toney. Also had two great fights with David Tua. One draw that Rahman should have gotten the W for, one awesome come from behind KO win for Tua.

Should have stayed retired after the Klitschko fight. Didn't need to see him get iced by a prime Povetkin at 40, 4 years later.

Ducked nobody, always came to fight. Dangerous and vulnerable, lots of heart. Entertaining as hell. Not the best of his era by a long shot but nobody becomes 2X heavyweight champion by accident. A lot of garbage fighters fluked their way into 1 title reign but there aren't many bad 2 time champs.

Agree with all of this and my reason also for the B- rating, managing to ko Lewis puts him into B territory.
