Comments Thread For: Shawn Porter: Plant Must Improve Power, Focus Through 12 Rounds To Beat Canelo

Caleb Plant impressed Shawn Porter on Saturday night. Porter, an analyst for FOX, watched from ringside as Plant dominated mandatory challenger Caleb Truax on his way to a shutout victory on all three scorecards at Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The former IBF/WBC welterweight champion noticed areas in which Plant must improve, however, if the unbeaten IBF super middleweight champion is to have a legitimate shot at beating Canelo Alvarez.

only way to beat canelo is by ko because no one ever winning a decision because of paid off judges.

so yes plant needs to focus heavily on power.

Although I don't think Plant can beat Canelo, it's not so much about you need enough power to keep an aggressive opponent off you.

It's more about if you make the opponent miss his punches, and you score with your punches, then you win.

Mayweather wasn't the biggest puncher but had fair power with the speed, and his chin was pretty solid. He won a number of fights with sweet boxing from the outside, and not taking too many punches.

Plant is not that level of course but it would be nice to see how he does against a Benavidez, besides against Canelo.

Porter needs to have the same tenacity of pressure to make the Terence Duckford fight like he does with his opinion of other fighters

Is there even a guarantee that plant is gonna fight him after Saunders? I mean i know culero isn't exclusive to dazn but just the way plant specifically called him out to only fight on FOX.

Caleb didnt only get hit with overhand rights. He got hit with uppercuts inside too when he would lean in with his head. Give that shot to canelo and its game over fast. He got hit with lots of different shots, so I'm i'm sure canelo sees all kinds of things he's open for. Yes he's slick, yes he's beautiful to watch, but he still gets hit too much, and by C level guys. We've seen his face and eyes all busted up b4. He's slick looking but very hittable still. We ain't talking about a niccolino locche or pernell whitaker or benitez or james toney level of defense where he can go 12 without any damage to his face. And porter is correct that caleb needs to be much stronger and hit harder to hold canelo off and definitely if he hopes to hurt canelo in any way whatsoever. The man has a fire hydrant neck. Canelo's jab alone will feel like a right cross, and it will land often. Forget about his poewer shots. Like porter said, anyone can fight someone, but to beat them, that's much higher level of committment to training, and focus, and DEFENSE

That's because he tries to be too cute and extra slick when at times he don't need to. He just needs to keep it simple.

                The unfortunate truth.

He got hit a few times with that right hand yes, I mentioned this recently on one of my recent posts. One thing you got to think about too is, when you're beating a beat by shutout every single round and end up winning 120, you take those chances and leave yourself open to do something spectacular. But yea man, Porter on point with this advice.

But at the end of the day, you just can't get a points win against Canelo. CJ Ross, know what I mean?
