Plant is younger, has a 1 inch height advantage, his wingspan is 3 inches longer than Ward, and he has been active. While Ward of course has a much better resume and accomplishments and became a first ballot hall of famer only 3 years after he retired.

If Ward fought Plant at Light Heavyweight after a 4 year lay off, who would win?

I love Ward, but he's been out the game for a minute. id like to see him take a tune up fight before any discussion about Plant or Canelo.

I think they’re both insane IQ boxers, but it’s just a style clash that should favour Ward especially with his size that augments it.

At this point in his career, you really can’t count out Canelo though.
I think Canelo has a better chance of keeping Beterbiev off of him then beating Ward.

Ward can simply show up the better man on that night. Meanwhile with Beterbiev he just needs to find a way to keep him off of him.

Both would be really great competitive fights though for sure.

I never did think Ward was number 1 P4P like most did. If prime is 25 to 30 years old Ward is 36 years old so he would have gone down hill a lot even if he had stayed active due to aging. Add 4 years of ring rust and I would pick Plant, the active young champion to win. Plus Ward was unable to make 168 even years before he retired long ago.

Sorry, I messed up. You said the fight would be at 175. That would be better for Ward but I would still pick the much younger active champion.

Fight makes literally no sense. Why would ward come out of retirement to fight Caleb Plant? Where is the money on that fight?

Some of you posters on here literally lack common sense. Now if Plant beats Canelo, maybe then could we entertain this conversation. But Plant would have to get through Benavidez.
There was already a thread about Canelo vs Ward.......

No disrespect to Plant, but he is the tune up for Ward before he takes on Canelo. It may be hard for Ward to get motivated to come back and fight a tune up level fighter who is a big underdog, and he doesn't have much time left.

If Ward came back, I would think his tune up fight to prepare for Canelo would be someone like Plant, who is a good fighter but a light puncher at 168.

all valid points. what I think plant lacks in power, he makes up in boxing IQ and movement. ward hasn't fought in 4 years.
