DAZN preferred Canelo vs Andrade instead of Kovalev because it was safer

    It’s rather simple.

First, your average boxing fan KNOWS Kovalev is a more dangerous fighter than Andrade. One doesn’t just assume card theory or 12 rounds. You have to gauge how Canelo would get hurt by either two if he makes a mistake. In both scenarios should Canelo have lost to Kovalev or Andrade there would’ve been rematch clauses anyways.

With this risk, DAZN would prefer Canelo losing to Andrade than Kovalev. It’s safer! Plus Andrade wasn’t getting a Kovalev purse north of $12mil. This means Matchroom/DAZN could supplement Canelo the difference from Kovalev and Andrade; thats the $5mil Andrade is referring to. Its also easier for Hearn to not share costs with Main Events...

In other words Kovalev was like a Lara scenario. Nobody wanted Canelo to fight Kovalev for a riskier LHW belt attempt. Canelo was being stripped the IBF anyways so there was no longer any benefit in fighting Andrade.

Andrade disclosed important information on how DAZN didn’t want Canelo fighting the riskier Kovalev! Andrade gotta be smarter than this!

I think you’re wrong, it was the chance to pick up a belt at the higher weight class.

Surely there were doubts there about the size difference and other unknown factors?

He has beaten fighters better than Andrade, there’s nothing unique or unknown about fighting and beating him

To take on and beat someone the size of Kovalev was a bigger statement, regardless of how shot he was

I agree with you, and the bold refers to what Canelo and Reynoso wanted. They’ve said it countless times. But remember the road to Undisputed at 160 was interrupted because Haymon and DiBella priced themselves out and wanted a purse bid for Canelo vs Devry. That wasn’t going to happen, so fighting Andrade meant nothing.

Nevertheless, Hearn has always had a lot of power at DAZN and I’ve said for more than a year that he pulls some strings with the executives. Therefore, he would prefer all inclusive and risk with Andrade (which if Canelo lost) would have the rematch and give Matchroom powers and subs representing the guy who beat Canelo and running it back. That’s better for GBP vs Matchroom instead of GBP vs Matchroom/Main Events x2 (rematch).

Canelo getting hurt by Kovalev is way more detrimental than Canelo getting beat by Andrade. I say that because most fans wouldn’t see Boo Boo stopping Canelo.

It means to CONVINCE Canelo to take the safer fight requires additional cost, hence what Andrade was referring to.

Canelo and Reynoso were bosses, and is Ward said, they picked the Krusher at the right time, and the risk was worth it instead of fighting for a Middleweight unification that no longer had a road for Undisputed since Haymon and DiBella messed it up.

Tbf Andrade his this reputation of being avoided and he probably is. Not because he is some beast that everyone is scared of.

It’s more because the risk isn’t worth the reward, he’s boring in and outside the ring, doesn’t bring numbers in terms of ppv and few outside of boxing know who he is.

Add to that he’s no mug when it comes to fighting. But he’s nothing special, I think a fit motivated BJS boxes his head off!

Blokes biggest win is Brian Rose hahahaha

Sure. But in the grand scheme of things it goes back to what you said. Canelo’s state of mind signing a 365mil deal means $5mil more means nothing. That’s $550K addded for every fight thereafter including the one mentioned.

Canelo told the world that he would need to be compensated tremendously, like a bonus, for a third GGG fight. That’s where alll the mess started with DAZN vs GBP. If Canelo was giving flack for a third GGG fight, let’s say wanting $20mil more then why even bother with Andrade for a $5mil stipend.

Andrade is acting the fool. I feel sorry for him. He’ll be 33 soon and hasn’t had a significant fight.

Just like after Ryan beating Campbell DAZN was more on Haney vs Ryan more than Ryan vs Tank

I think Dazn were wanting a big say over who he fought. When he agreed the deal there was one gimme against Fielding then it was agreed the next lot of fights would be huge to justify the cost of the deal.

They were bringing the execs at DAZN proposals such as BJS etc and they were saying no, not if you want to be paid what’s in the contract.

They were wanting GGG 3 as they thought that would bring in most money. Not sure if Canelos team put forward the possibility of an Andrade fight but DAZN would have kicked it back. Hence why they agreed Kovalev as it’s a bigger draw.

Not sure if they really considered before they offered him a deal, who actually is out there that meant the could pay him so much and still earn a profit?

Idk if Andrade is a “dangerous” fight. He might make Canelo look sloppy/silly a la Lara etc but the worst case scenario is Canelo would win a controversial points decision and he’s dealt with that before.
