Comments Thread For: Michel Rivera: Ryan Garcia Has a Great Punch But a Glass Chin

Michel "La Zarza" Rivera (19-0) finds himself in a great position. The rising lightweight prospect has been training in Las Vegas for a March 6th return to the ring in a Showtime televised bout. He has also seen himself mentioned as a possible opponent for former four-division champion Adrien Broner.

Glass chin? Garcia got up from that shot and took care of business. I’ve already seen a couple of people saying the same thing about Garcia. That’s just plain ignorant.

He has a poor defense & needs too learn to tuck his chin more than anything.

He keeps that chin dangerously high.

He's not gonna tuck it in like Cotto. That's just not his way. He needs to move the head a bit and parry.

As he is now I wouldn't hesitate to bet on Tank KOing him.

If people are going to say he has a glass chin, then they should be LINING UP outside Garcia's house to face him. Why the heck wouldn't you want to face a guy who brings all the followers to the fight but only needs to be tagged clean to go down? Easy money right? Well probably not that easy if they aren't lining up to do so.

They may be right saying he has a glass chin which still remains to be seen if 100% true but he's still hella dangerous to try and get to the chin.

Like I'm not sure if Garcia is the American version of Amir Khan yet. Khan, when he got wobbled and iced, it was just BAD. Garcia showed he has heart getting up and really didn't even look hard at all. Like his legs gave out when he got popped but he had no daze after getting back up. Can't say the same about Khan...

If anything, this is going to make all his fights that much more exciting with the idea he can get dropped if someone lands clean and will he get back up each time or will someone finally put him down and out?

Getting knocked down from a hard flush shot is considered as glass chin? It’s probably the most overused term in Boxing and it’s ******.

Agreed. But when a guy like Campbell, who is not considered a hard puncher, puts you down the way he did, it does raise questions about it. Garcia wasn't badly hurt, but he was hurt. He just came back like a champ and held it down. He keeps hanging that chin up there like that, somebody might eventually put him on a highlight-KO reel. He really needs to work on that. It's a key defensive flaw that could cost him down the line.

Lack of head movement would be more accurate. He got cold early in his first big fight, he seemed to take Campbell's shots better as the fight progressed. I still need to see more of Garcia against stout competition to make a decision about his chin. Head movement definitely needs to be worked on.
