Boxing Eddie Hearn believes that a “deal is done” for Anthony Joshua to fight Tyson Fury in an all-British world heavyweight title bout in late spring.
The contract for the fight is still being finalised but Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, said that an agreement had been reached. Joshua and Fury are set to fight in late May or early June and will split the purse 50-50.
Joshua, 31, defended his WBA, WBO and IBF titles against Kubrat Pulev, of Bulgaria, in December, while Fury, 32, has not fought since February, when he stopped the American Deontay Wilder to win the WBC belt.
“The deal is done, really — without being signed,” Hearn said. “The financial elements of the deal are done. We’re talking through the broadcast situation, the only thing really now is to paper it. And when you paper a deal like that, it does go back and forwards 15 times before every single letter is approved on the document.”
According to Hearn, a venue in the Middle East is considered a “frontrunner” — but he wants the rematch to be staged in the UK.
