    2008 Cotto vs. Mayweather

I remember HBO at the time hyping this fight up big time. The Cotto who beat down Gomez (pre Margarito) vs. Money May...who would have taken it back then?

      Does it matter?

Because in all these hypothetical matchups it always comes down to the following.

Mayweather chose not to take a tough fight that people saw as 50/50 and instead chose to avoid that fighter until he had seen enough decline.

So these "hypothetical " match ups never could happen even in fantasy

if a past prime cotto and already destroyed by pac and margarito gave floyd a very tough fight then a 2008 would have easily beat floyd.

Cotto did not give Floyd a very tough fight.

There's not a single person who thought the fight was in doubt, even Puerto Ricans.

Floyd washed him and would've washed him in any era.

Floyd won 8/4 and had trouble early. I seem to remember Cotto bloodying him up.
Mayweather eventually took it too him and took over the fight but Cotto was competitive.
Sickens me when people make it out like Mayweather “washed him” just like when they suggest he “washed” Pacquiao
