Do what’s best for boxing and get the elite to fight -with or without a belt. This is a great opportunity to render belts and sanctioning bodies meaningless at the top level of the sport.
You are right: in this circumstance, this fight would deliver a consensus champ, regardless of belts. Hearn is right to flex his muscle if needs be to deliver the fight.

Ideally we'd get Joshua vs Fury for all four belts.

Failing that, if the choice is
    a. Joshua vs Fury this year for no belts

    or

    b. No Joshua vs Fury fight this year in order to hang on to the WBO in the hopes of somehow the stars aligning sometime in the future to get all 4 on the line in another fight

    I'd opt for a.

Though he may have had a long-held ambition to one day be HW champ, he's spent most of his life in a different division, so it's not like he's devoted his whole career to this achievement. Most of his energies were devoted towards unifying in cruiser, and he now has this shot via what is effectively a back-door technicality.

His problem is that the 1 and 2 of the division are willing to fight for what the public will recognise as all the marbles, whether his little portion of marbles that he is due a shot at is in the mix or not. He has no mandated right to a crack at any of the other belts, so I'm sure there is some kind of deal on the table to let him get his WBO shot after the AJ-Fury fight happens, with a little sweetener thrown in, but it's unlikely going to be against either AJ or Fury.

The problem for Usyk is that he will have to wait for Fury to fight Joshua not once, but twice, so he's going to want 7 figures! The problem for Hearn is that there seems to be a pecking order at MatchRoom that is not working for Usyk and Andrade! It's working lovely for AJ and GGG!

"We could vacate all the belts." -The best thing Hearn has ever said. Belts are all garbage and crooked.

I've said it before, Hearn does not want AJ to fight Usyk as it's too risky.
Not as risky or likely as Fury losing to Wilder.

And if Hearn wants AJ to unify with Fury then pay Usyj enough money (as in a lot) to make it worthwhile
for Usyk to miss a chance of a lifetime to become a unified HW champion.

Usyk is probably next, but AJ wants to act like he was forced into it.
