Comments Thread For: Hearn: Joshua Won't Be Held For Ransom By Usyk; We Could Vacate All The Belts

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn says there is a 90% chance that the heavyweight unification fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury takes place in 2021. That said, there is a 100% chance Hearn and Joshua will first need to address the situation pertaining to Joshua's WBO mandatory challenger in Oleksandr Usyk.

If I were Usyk, I would leave matchroom after that sort of statement. Insane.....absolutely insane that a promoter would say that about one of his own fighters

****** negotiating tactic. Someone else will swoop them up and claim they are the real champ and claim everyone is ducking, people will actually believe it. Just look at Haney.

Nope, each sanctioning body would then leave them vacant, line up fighters they rank (none having a rank uniform across other sanctioning bodies) and all belts will be scattered across 4 different heavyweights. It’ll then take another 5-8 years for the conversation of unification to even happen. They would love for their belts to be split up again. Less time between mandatories makes them more money.

Usyk's contract is up now unless he faces AJ, so he's no longer Matchroom if moves to the PBC all the people who hated him will love him, shame as the rest of the world will never hear from him again.

Joshua should just fight Usyk while Fury gives Wilder the rematch he agreed to.

The winners can then fight for undisputed with nothing hanging over their heads.

As usual Hearn is making it more complicated than it has to be.

Lmfao I guess mandatories are only important when they're Pulev or Povetkin. Suddenly you're gonna hold onto a live grenade and destroy your own division to avoid a challenge

Yeah, I don't get it either. TBH I don't see how anyone can watch this situation and want to sign with Matchroom.

If anything it definitely shows heavy favouritism under Hearn. If someone is the mandatory, they’ve earned it, especially when unifying the belts from the division below. I can understand British talent signing with matchroom but after this I don’t see why anyone else would do it.
