He’d have got clowned Pazienza style. Canelo simply doesn’t have the physical dimensions to compete with a peak Roy.
Canelo has a tremendous chin and good defence so Roy doesn’t stop him but he beats him widely on points similar to how he dealt with Toney.Comment

Alvarez has only been able to wade into the middleweight divisions because? They are under par in comparison to past generations.
Chris Eubank Senior, Nigel Benn, Steve Collins and many more would of all beaten Canelo Alvarez etcComment

A prime Gerald Mcclellan gives him a run for his money but I agree. RJJ was the man and he definitely beats down Canelo.
Canelo was barely able to catch Lara who I had him losing to. What the fucc would he have done with RJJ?Comment

Roy would be a nightmare stylistically for Canelo and I'm not saying that because of any bias towards fighters of the past. First we can look at their height and reach:
Canelo: 5'8" and 70.5" reach
Roy: 5'11" and 74" reach
Canelo has lit up bigger, slower guys like Kovalev and Callum Smith while struggling against slicker guys like Floyd and Erislandy Lara. Prime Roy Jones was not only fleet-footed but he also possessed scary handspeed and power.
Roy handled elite boxers like Bernard Hopkins and James Toney. Toney excelled at slipping punches on the inside like Canelo does now and Roy was too dynamic for him.Comment

Badly.
I think the current SMW division is trash. Plant, Benavidez, Saunders etc compared to RJJ, Toney, Calzaghe, Benn, McClellan etc is embarassing.
Truth is the SMW division has become a hideout for lazy MW's or guys who can't fight against a modern LHW as they'll get wrecked by someone like Beterbiev or Bivol.Comment
