Ok sooo... kush has kinda put it to me that I - essentially - run this thing, although I was initially reluctant unless it was basically part of the standard Pick Em, just on account of pretty much having my hands full already.
However I've given it a little thought and since for now at least we're only talking about maybe 10 players or so I'm thinking I might be willing to at least give it a shot, maybe run a kinda pilot seperate to the main Pick Em... I'm thinking 10 or so players, 10 or so fights spread over a few months. Maybe run it on the fantasy Betting Forum... dunno... would it fit in there?
My thought is fights have to be for full world title and have to be within the +/-300 range... If folk want there could be a kinda proposal and poll system to decide what fights go in, or alternatively we could get someone trusted like Eff Pandas to choose the fights.
I'm also intrigued by Pandas' idea about multiplying scores by the decimal odds to get the final score on a fighter. We also - potentially got the option of exploring other scoring mechanisms such as subtracting points for misses or whatever.
Okay.. so what you think gents? please note that I ain't intending to take this on long term, but I'm figuring I got some kinda experience at getting this kinda thing set up and recognise some of the pitfalls and so on, so if we have a run through, see how it works and then take it from there... at the very least we have a bit of fun and someone gets a few £/$. Maybe someone else picks it up and runs with it once we got the systems in place or maybe we change to running something alongside the regular Pick Em. Whatever.
Any suggestions on scoring sytems, fight selection - or shet, anything else at all, throw in below and let's see where it takes us.
F#ck.. let's just give it a shot.

Good idea. There's no traffic on that board, so the threads won't get pushed to the bottom.

We've seen that the bookies odds are sometimes extreme. +/-500 range is a good area to aim for.
Title fights should be priority, but other high level fights (top 20 - e.g. Dillian Whyte vs. Luis Ortiz) would be nice too.

One big suggestion:
If possible, we should run a poll about 30 days before the start of the game to vote on the fights to be included.
Players will love it because we'll have time to research and make our picks in advance.

Definitely of the opinion we should use a odds multiplier for the points. I think doing the same points method as normal with the betting odds multiplier, instead of the option to use multipliers, would be solid. That said I wouldn't be opposed to having some 2x, 3x & 5x multipliers that you could use as well although that might outer space the points potentially although it could make for some interesting strategies late in the game if you are behind too. Definitely be fun & dramatic lol.
I wouldn't be against losing points on bad picks, but that might be a lil more involved than we want. If we were to do it I suppose you could just -40 (the total points you can get with your pick) & than times it by the winning fighters multiplier. So if the +200 dog beats your favored pick you -40 x 3 = -120. If the -200 favorite beats your dog pick you -40 x 1.5 = -60. So basically you get dinged worse if the favorite loses than if the dog loses.
As far as lines I don't think we should worry too much about that. If a big fight has wide lines it has wide lines. I do think we shouldn't use wide lines medium or small caliber fights. But if AJ, Canelo or Fury fight some 8/1 dog that should be a pick em fight cuz those guys are so big it'd be silly to leave that outta the game. Plus if we use a odds multiplier that all gets dealt with anyway. You get less points for wider favorites so its not boosting someone more than it should like in the regular pick em game + it could encourage folks to take a risk on the dog cuz it could pay off greatly if he comes through. I think it has the potential to make it way more interesting strategically.
As far as including fights I think every 4 & 5 star fight on boxrec (male not female) should be included. Than pick the more interesting 2 & 3 star fights to include. And we could definitely vote of the ones of more interest by participants well beforehand so there is a bit of a heads up to prep yourself if you aren't aware of one or both of the fighters in a specific matchup.
I like the idea of some exact number of fights being used as previously mentioned, but I think picking a range might be easier attained. So instead of 50 fights maybe lean towards 45-55 with a per month or per week expectation to make sure we don't fall too far behind or get to far ahead.
I'm in, but let's wait til the pandemic fades out so there's no canceled fights.
Register the players by April and we can kick it off in the Cinco de Mayo weekend!
Yea I'm more with this schedule myself. I don't see the need to rush it.
Cinco De Mayo kicks it off. Mexican Independence Day is the finish line.
If a bunch of people enjoy it & wanna do it again immediately maybe we can have a off season league for a lower buy in or not from Mexican Independence Day to Cinco De Mayo.
I love the idea of the season & I like that it doesn't line up directly with the regular pick em game.
Also gives us some time to talk out the options on how we wanna run things & work out the details. Plus hype it. I'm sure May is gonna be a more hyped time of the year here than now so might be able to entice more folks into playing with a concentration on the bigger fights.
