First three rounds, although two sided action, I thought Tanaka might wear down and overwhelm an older Ioka.

I should have seen that Ioka was slickly avoiding damage, while Tanaka was a "drunk waitress" - running into counter after counter.

Sure wish Tanaka would tighten up his D. He has GREAT offensive skills, but against a master counter puncher like Ioka (or Gallo or maybe even an old Chocolatito) he got lit up.

Ioka is such a wizened master. IMO, he punched his ticket to the HOF. Gallo/Chocolatito v Ioka would be BOXING NIRVANA. But I just dont see it happening.

Also, I note that I picked youth in this fight, should have picked experience, should have known those defensive holes would come up.


The stoppage was good. Had Tanaka gone down, maybe he gets up in time (although the ref likely would have stopped it, as he would probably still be dazed.

But Tanaka didnt go down, and he was a sitting duck. Ref just cant let a dude take a free shot. Ref did his job, and very well.

Look at post 87 with imbedded photo. I noticed this in the fight replays as well. Look very closely at Tanaka’s feet and ankles when the ref rushes in and even while he is holding him. Had the ref not been there I believe he’d have either snapped his ankle or severely sprained it. He was so out on his feet the ref literally saved him from further damage by holding him up.

This was a perfect stoppage

It was a good stop in context. If that was the only solid punch Ioka hit him with, then it was a quick stop, but Ioka was busting him up.

I'd love to see Ioka in the mix with Estrada, Gonzalez and Rungvisia. Then there's Ancajas. No doubt it'll be another good year at Super flyweight.
