I’d feel the same if Nietes hadn’t dropped the belt to avoid rematching Ioka. First fight could have gone either way. Nietes robbed us a second fight.

      • Ancajas could make good money going to Japan for unification.

        • Ioka would destroy Ancajas

If I recall, he wanted Estrada, Chocolatito, or Rungvisai at that time.

Pretty much the only thing missing in his resume is a win over either of those fighters.

He retired after his promoter was not able to get him those fights.

I heard rumors he's returning tho. But I doubt Choco and Estrada would want to fight him. Nietes is too slick and a master boxer. Ioka is the onyl one who wants it.

Yeah, Ioka wanted those three also. I don’t see them fighting either TBH.

              • Awesome win for Ioka! He is a major player at 115 now. Tanaka will bounce back, he's still young... However, he will need defensive tweaking

That said, it was a very impressive display from Ioka. I've never seen one of his fights in full before now but he's clearly an excellent operator. I hope he gets those fights with those big names on the other side of the Pacific, he'd be a live dog against any of them I think.
Look at post 87 with imbedded photo. I noticed this in the fight replays as well. Look very closely at Tanaka’s feet and ankles when the ref rushes in and even while he is holding him. Had the ref not been there I believe he’d have either snapped his ankle or severely sprained it. He was so out on his feet the ref literally saved him from further damage by holding him up.

                  This was a perfect stoppage

                    • I picked Tanaka and looked good for the first three, but Ioka waited him out. The longer it went, the more Tanaka opened up and Ioka started landing flush. I can see how he might have problems trying to wait out Gonzalez.
