Comments Thread For: Best of 2020 Begins and Ends with Fury, Davis, Zepeda and Rosario

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - There are a couple things I've always promised myself. I barely play golf. But if I was ever lucky enough to score a hole in one, I've vowed to pluck the ball out of the cup, slide the club into the bag and head straight to my car because it'll never get any better. Same goes for bowling. I consider myself a decent bowler, but If I ever was lucky enough to...

WBA “world” super featherweight title – Dallas, Texas
Rene Alvarado (“world” champion/No. 5 IWBR) vs. Roger Gutierrez (No. 3 WBA/No. 51 IWBR)
Why it’s garbage: Another week. Another weight. Another instance where one of the WBA’s three champs is defending a useless bauble. If it doesn’t say Gervonta Davis, it’s not a WBA title fight at 130.
    lol
Its wasnt this time long ago that boxingscene was trying to get brownie points by bringing up Davis’ illegitimate wba title grab when Machado had the super title and he managed to get that title against Cuellar but later ended up having Machado’s super belt while Machado himself was downgraded.

You trying to say this because they are considered “lower quality” yet Santa Cruz fought Miguel Florez for that belt.

So technically Davis still defending the garbage vacant title he got off of featherweight can Cuellar.

Seems like the only lineage there still runs through Alvarado.

    Uchiyama-Corrales-Machado-Cancio-Alvarado

Nice to see bs shill cucks dont care as long as a pbc hypejobs name is on the tin.

Hold on, this guy implies that plenty of people picked Lopez over Loma while very few thought Fury would win the rematch against Wilder, really? Did I read that right? If so, it was the complete opposite for me. Almost everyone I know (casual or hardcore fan) picked Fury to win based off the performance in the first fight and his ability to adjust and adapt while Wilder will come and be exactly the same. Everyone was aware that Wilder's power could change things at any moment during the fight but the consensus was that Fury outboxed Wilder the first time and will do it again in the rematch. The only surprise here was the manner of victory but most people seemed to pick the right winner.

It was Loma-Lopez where it was difficult to find anyone picking Lopez. The majority of people thought Lopez was too green, Loma would be too good, too experienced and would outbox him for a decision or late stoppage. There were plenty calling Loma P4P #1 during the build up, Dave Coldwell and Adam Booth both said Loma's skills are 'far superior to Floyd's'. I even saw some journalists label Loma 'the greatest P4P fighter in the history of the sport' during the build up. How is this fight not a bigger upset than Wilder-Fury II (which to me is no upset since most seemed to pick Fury) and at the same time how is it not upset of the year?

I can only assume that the writer is one of those that overrated Loma as one of the greatest fighters in history, is still not over it and is trying to make out that Lopez beating him convincingly is no big deal.

You’re full of it dude and will spend another 9 years not having a clue. You predicted Loma KO Lopez as fight of the year, yet that WASN’T the upset of the year? That’s some hipster, going with the obscure Choice to stand out s#*t right there. No one, and I mean no one, picked Lopez to win that one, and specially by decision.

I picked Lopez to win though I didnt pick it by decision I figured it would be a knockout win in a decent fight. I couldn't have saw that 1 sided fight coming.

I thought Wilder was going to win also. You must be the only guy who picks fights 100% of the time right...

Everyone I knew took Lopez and bet money on him and made a killing with the odds at +350 or more.

I also know a lot of ppl who took Wilder.

Wilder is a huge puncher who figured after 12 rounds at Fury's timing down. He flipped the switch and fought completely different

Most figured new trainer would also be against him... That usually never works out.

I just can't choose a domestic level dust-up between two domestic level fighters with no chins for the fight of the year.

An entertaining C-level scrap? Sure. Fight of the year? No way. They aren't of the caliber required. Same reason I care very little for Gatti vs Ward.

Fight of the year was Fury vs Wilder, followed by Lopez vs Loma. Neither fight was that competitive, but Fury's performance was an all-time great one, and Lopez's result was, though Loma's bizarre inactivity for 7 rounds puts this in number 2, as Wilder, whilst well-beaten, was game as F***.

Wilder definitely tops excuses of the year, and Lomachenko pushes him hard for that coming in at number 2.

Really enjoyed Gervonta vs Santa Cruz, too.
