no i didnt, look at the date of that thread. when the fight got made post ryder i didnt give smith a chance. did i overrate smith at one point, hell yes but so did a lot of people until the ryder fight, this is why eye test is a load of ****. noone who watched him v groves would have thought he would lose to john ryder but that showed he had no inside game whatsoever and couldnt stop people coming in.

this fight is ok.

option 1) canelo fights in may against better rated fighter risking to lose a belt and he doesn't give a payday to yildirim.

option 2) canelo fights yildirim in february and then he fights in may against better rated fighter. yildirim gets a payday, wbc mandatory is satisfied, canelo keeps both belts, fans in mexico get to see him, canelo's team gets one more payday AND he'll fight someone better in may/june anyway.

option 2 is clearly better in my opinion.

I don’t care if he’s a mandatory, GGG was a mandatory and he vacated the belt, Charlo was a mandatory and he became “franchise champion”, Derevyanchenko was a mandatory and he vacated the belt. Just do the same here instead of partaking in this pointless mismatch.

Canelo is the best fighter in the sport. Yildirim is European level at best. This is a complete waste of time.

Canelo has never really cared about belts though, he’s consistently just fought who he or GBP wanted regardless of mandatories or belts.

I struggle to believe he’s suddenly gone full GGG and wanting “all the belts” is now a reason to fight no hopers.

If he blasts him out early and still fights Plant, Benavidez, Saunders etc in May, at least it won’t alter the schedule. Just have no interest in this fight though.
