If the motivation was dealing with the modern massive heavyweight- they could have moved say super middle to 170. Lt hvy to 180. Cruiser to 210. Something creative. But it’s not about that. It’s about greed. And like the early days of cruiser when it was a lot of mediocre fighters from like Wakanda and the lost continent of Atlantis becoming “world champions” - here we go again. Thanks WBC!

        WBC Bridgeweight Rankings

        1. Oscar Rivas
        2. Ryad Merhy
        3. Kevin Lerena
        4. Dmitry Kudryashov
        5. Evgeny Romanov
        6. Bryant Jennings
        7. Artur Szpilka
        8. Alen Babic
        9. Joel Tambwe
        10. Shigabudin Aliev
        11. Marco Huck
        12. Bilal Laggoune
        13. Samuel Kodje
        14. Rashid Kodzoev
        15. Isaac Chamberlain

When was the last time Rivas was under 224? A few recognizable names on the list.
Rivas if he gets under 224 has to be the favourite. Jennings, Huck & Romanov would be the other top guys. Some i never heard of. Babic & Szpilka have to be near the front but Szpilka’s punch resistance was never that good but it seems gone now. This new division seems like a waste of time but it may give a few guys on the list some competitive fights before moving up again. I guess we will see how it goes. The other 3 bodies will be watching closely.

Some top CWs could actually prepare themselves for a move to HW thru this division. Get a couple of training camps & fights in over 200lbs before heading to HW. Anyone between 200-224 can decline this division but it may actually help a few former CWs get acclimated to fighting over 200lbs acting as a “Bridge” to the HW division. It could also hurt the depth of the CW division if some top 15 make the move to the Bridgeweight. I will watch closely & before I completely write it off I will see where it goes. At first I thought it was a waste of time but I will give it a chance before making my final conclusion.

Ill give it a try too. Sometimes fighters like rivas have nowhere to go in boxing. Dont know how long he hasnt been fighting for wasting his prime years. At least we can hope for to see some competitive fights here.

Looking down that list I thought which 2 guys would probably make the best fight? Rivas vs Jennings has already happened. That would be my choice. Jennings was up on the cards until Rivas stopped him in the 12th I believe. I’d like to see Romanov finally fight a decent opponent. I’d like to see him fight Jennings, Szpilka, Huck or Babic. Babic & Romanov are both prospects. So other than Rivas, Jennings, Romanov, Huck, Babic & Szpilka all the rest of the HWs who were in that weight range must have declined to commit to this new division.
