I hear what you are saying, but my thing is this, Lomachenko is a much better boxer than Devin Haney, much more difficult to figure out and keep up with.
Theirs no way Lopez and his team are avoiding him. They’re doing what all fighters do. They’re trying to milk all they can before making it. That’s just what happens. Just because Lopez doesn’t fight Haney next or when you want it to be, doesn’t mean they’re “ducking”.
It just annoys me a bit, when we have fighters who actually beat somebody who is basically a modern day Legend in boxing terms, and they get accused of been a duck or other insults.
Dude barely fought a few months ago, was a HUGE underdog against a master boxer with a wealth of experience, and dominated the majority of the fight. Let him enjoy his props.
He’s likely got a mando defence next. Maybe after that or when Haney beats a live body we will see it next.
Realistically, no TV Networks, promoters or even the two fighters themselves, are interested in making a fight without full capacity of fans in arenas. The fight has a whole lot of growing to do. Eddie Hearn needs to do a much better job with Haney, and get him that STANDOUT name for him to beat, if he does that then Haney has every right to call Lopez out for avoiding him. But not yet. Best way to break it down is this:
Devin Haney is a belt holder in the Lightweight division. (Fantastic Talent btw)
-
Teofimo Lopez is THE Reigning UNIFIED Lightweight CHAMP of the World. He took out THE Biggest PLAYER in the Division.
(Basically Undisputed to majority of fight fans)
Theirs a gulf right now of where both guys are in their respective careers.
Haney is an exceptional talent. But he’s not proven it at the HIGHEST of levels. And he can’t just keep saying it’s because everybody ducks me. Theirs Many guys in LW right now.
He’s happy with the calibre of opponents he’s been getting. Anybody worth a grain of salt knew that The Gamboa fight was only a step up on paper. Dude was shot AF.
Eddie loves letting us all know about it if a fighter ain’t making same as the other guy or whose the A-Side, proving themselves etc.
Yet it seems that’s only the case when Eddie has the A-Side, when he doesn’t he just expects champs to give his guys the fights he wants. All because lord Hearn says so? lol. Not how it works.
Truth is, Haney has barked with no bite. Can only look upon himself/handlers at his career stagnating. He chose that DAZN/MATCHROOM money thinking he’s onto the yellow brick road. Boy ain’t beaten Nobody.
