Comments Thread For: WBC To Review Canelo's Franchise Champion Status At 160

Canelo is one of my favorite fighters today. But lets be honest about two things. 1. That franchise belt is A easy way to fight dossers and skip legit competition and 2. He needs to be fighting Benavidez because he didn't lose the belt in the ring it was on the scale. Other than that I don't want to see a third GGG fight. I want to see him thrash Andrade and Billy Saunders. Or take on Charlo which I think will be the best option outside of Benavidez.Comment

Wasn’t the franchise title originally conceived as an honorary designation anyway? I remember when it was first unveiled it was stated that you couldn’t even win the thing and now the WBC is recognizing Teofimo Lopez as champion. If the WBC wanted Canelo to have middleweight fights maybe it should’ve left him as middleweight champion and made him fight Charlo who was interim champ at the time. Instead they created this mess. Yes the more titles they create means more sanctioning fees, but it also means more confusion in weight classes and titles being continuously disrespected.Comment

If they meet I wonder if their solution is to offer Canelo the franchise belt at 168. Then they'll have Benavidez and Yildirim fight for the WBC belt at 168. But like everyone else im sick of tye WBC and all these belts. The WBA, IBF and WBO arent any better and the concept of multiple champions in all these weight classes is ridiculous too. If you just had to have all these sanctioning bodies belts then if you unify you should automatically be placed in franchise status and have either no mandatories or the same mandatory for each sanctioning body or you can skip mandatories but must fight other championsComment

Get rid of that ****** Franchise belt. No one likes it or gives a crap about it, except for promoters who use it to bypass mandatories.Comment

Spence really wants the fight, put some damn weight on instead of purposely being under weight for 5'10 to be in a division to dominate true 150lbs. Oh but he's all muscle with 1% body fat lol... Yeah meaning he'd weigh 130 as an average guy. The guy is such a tool. All talk just like with Crawford.. 70/30 cause he's the top dog lol. Go lay down ya bi!chComment

Canelo is not beyond criticism and the fanboys he referred to seem to get their panties in a bunch when anyone does. Seems like his comment hit a nerve. Wonder why....Comment

If you want a franchise champion it should not be at a category butas an ambassador regardlesd of weight. Given only for outstanding achievements and regardless of current fights. Surely it doesn't need to be a title that's fought for above the world title beltComment
