If you saw the post fight interview Canelo absolutely understands English and he only uses his translator like a speaker so he doesn't have to use his own voice to speak English.

U just now finding out canelo speaks english which truthfully is one reasons he not a bigger star he chooses not to speak english. Yeah canelo be trolling us. You dont remember canelo speaking full english in buildup to rocky fielding plus canelo lived in california for near a decade. Also because america has huge hispanic pop more than blacks now and most of us well alot alteast are fluent in english and conversational in spanish or vice verse even if elementary level

The issue is things can be lost in translation, he might not understand fully what he is being asked. It’s not easy when someone is learn a new language. We English speakers are the most ignorant and uneducated people in the world. Almost all non English speaking people speaks and understand one other language. All we know is English and we try to deride non English born and bred people for not catering to our own language.

He should’ve just spoken last night because that translator was awful and butchered everything he said. You can tell even Canelo noticed it.

It’s insecure to want a foreign guy to speak English because you dont understand him. He does speak pretty decent English now but he’s Mexican and when he speaks publicly I’m sure he wants to get his point across in his own words and language to his fans instead of his own odd translated version of it in English.

I wish GGG used a translator to get his point across in an interview and then use the english to address us fans.

The translator was horrendous last night though. Might be the worst I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life. Not even exaggerating. I’m not sure that man actually knew both languages.
