Canelo literally said he isnt fighting at 160 last night and is going to unify at SMW. He's not fighting Spence unless Errol goes to 168 and Errol has never even fought at 154...it's not happening.

Spence is a come-forward fighter that uses a "downhill" approach which relies on a good jab (always backing opponent up) and high volume output (always keeping opponent on defensive). In order to fight this style you need to be bigger than your opponent with a longer reach, taller frame, and be bigger/stronger. Spence has ALL of those ATTRIBUES AT 147.

Against Canelo, Spence will have a very small edge (~1-2 inches) in both height and reach. However, whatever advantage he had in power at WELTERWEIGHT will be NONEXISTENT against Canelo.

Also, Canelo seems to have developed the same elite defense that Floyd and Lara had in that Canelo has the ability to lower opponents output (Jacobs, Smith, Kovalev). Canelo's counter-punching has also improved and he's among the best in the game today.

And we can't even say for sure that Spence is faster. Canelo looks lightning fast versus these bigger guys but Spence is also not the fastest fighter in all his fights.

Errol is not an evasive fighter and he doesn't really counter-punch. Errol has a high-output style and mixes up his punches well but he doesn't have the attributes that we've seen successful against Canelo (elite defense, elite counter-punching, elite fighting off the backfoot)

And I actually question Errol's chin. He was buzzed a couple of times against Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter. Canelo is stronger than Porter and Garcia and a better counter-puncher than Garcia.

Very tough for me to see this being a competitive fight but I don't like Spence so I'd happily pay to see this fight
Nice breakdown and I respect the points you made. The fight probably isn't happening because Canelo wants to stay at 168 as you said, and the only feasible option I could see is a catchweight of 162-164. Even that is unrealistic though because Canelo probably wouldn't make any concessions like that.

If anything, I just wanna see Canelo solve a different puzzle because he's been tearing the bigger guys to pieces. Stylistically I would prefer to see him against Caleb Plant.

Yeah Plant is my pick for most difficult fight imo.

I don't see Canelo's style aging well though. He's so outsized that the smallest drop off in reflexes and the outcome is way different. He's got 2 quality years left imho

Crawford was on fight hype suggesting it should be 60/40 in his favor

If Pacquiao doesn't fight them, then who else will the fans accept as their next opponents?
