When they start matching up Kovalev with these type fighters, he has officially made gatekeeper status. He should retire and keep his dignity rather than be a stepping stone for up and coming fighters.

Kovalev used to be a feared fighter, see the way that Adonis Stevenson went scrambling to Showtime to avoid fighting him when that was the most-wanted fight at LHW. Now, it seems like everyone wants a piece of him. Sure sign that the show's over for him. I'm sure he's still capable of beating lower-tier challengers, but scanning the Ring top 10 rankings for LHW (where Kovalev is still somehow ranked 3rd) I definitely wouldn't be confident of picking him to win against at least 6 of the other 9 fighters there. Against Beterbiev, the no.1, I'm all but certain he'd get slaughtered.

Wow. Would of NEVER pictured Kovalev been practically used in Facing a guy who is 6-0!! Top amateur or not. And I’m talking Kovalev Pre ward fights obviously.

The man had such an aura about him. He really was “The Krusher” and then Ward got that Questionable win over him, he was never the same at all the rematch totally ended the aura for good.

Really thought that would be the end after Canelo. Or he maybe of had a “Gimmie” fight in Russia and then jack it in, and try to enjoy the multi millions he’s earned. Can’t believe he’s trying to make another run at a title.

Kovalev's aura ended when Isaac Chilemba gave him all he could handle in Russia, one fight before Ward. Late in that fight Kovalev was getting rocked with clean shots by Chilemba, and really throughout that fight he was having stamina problems and problems finding Chilemba with good shots and he was getting hit a lot. He was winning rounds close instead of dominating that level of fighter like he had before vs Cleverley and Pascal.

I was shocked seeing him in 3rd?!! It can only be on what he’s achieved in the past?!

Problem been, it was a long time in the past, especially in boxing terms. He never officially beat Ward once did he. Even if people felt the first was a robbery or not.

Point is he lost both. So it’s Been a very long time!.... Much better fighters than him now. I guess they’re waiting on they’re shot to prove themselves!

Yeah I watched that fight live. Problem is, casuals that didn’t see that fight still fought he was a Krusher.

I remember him blaming the pressure of been at home and selling tickets as reasons he looked so laboured lol.

You right though it showed his limitations there. Dude never had an inside game, it killed him. Surely should have a nice bank, the man should go retire and drink all the Russian standard his hearts content with!

With that Canelo money, maybe even MAKE you’re own “Vodkat” and push that. Don’t fight guys who is 6-0, not right at all. It’s mental. From world champ to Gatekeeper 1 fight later!

Not sure how a 175 lb career guy lost to a guy who fought at 154. Either Kovalev threw the fight ot he was drunk.

He is fighting a guy with only 6 pro fights who boxrec rates 45th in the world. What does beating this guy prove? He should be fighting a top 10 contender.
