“The Lion” is coming...Golden Boy would be smart to push him hard next year. Mak is the heavyweight version of Beterviev

This isn't a fight that is a good move for him in any way except a check, which might be all he wants now idk. But this is meant to make Bek a name guy in pro boxing, not a Kov showcase fight as one would except him to be having now if he's not fighting big name guys or top guys. Just a weird ass fight to me.
Don’t know how Bek is less than a name than Yarde who fought Kovalev before the Ginger but whatever. Let’s be honest here Kov ain’t fighting Beterviev or Bivol @ this stage in his career dude probably accepted this fight b/c is a homecoming of sorts.

Yarde was a mandatory fight vs a top prospect at 175. This is a guy who fought Clay Collard a year ago & his best win wasn't even at 175.

Like I said I know this guy is a prospect with a very respectable amateur history & WSB fights. Thats great & this is a no lose situation for him. He either beats Kov & becomes a name to lotsa mfers the day after or its an extremely forgivable L vs a highly successful 175lb guy who was doing well vs the biggest name in the game last time out. That doesn't change the fact this fight makes absolutely no sense for Kovalev at this stage of his career. And maybe thats the plan cuz they are getting paid here idk, but fighting a 6-0 guy after the biggest name in the game is a giant step in the wrong direction for his career & seems beneath him at this point is all I'm seeing & speaking on.

Guess I value the Collard victory more than you do, considering how many highly touted prospects he’s beaten. Anyhow, don’t see Bek fighting @ light heavyweight as a disadvantage kid has campaign there during his amateur days. If anything props to Golden Boy Promotions for putting Bek in this position a W against Killer Kov makes him a legit contender @ 168-175 division.

Clay isn't a good boxer the prospects he beat where low level. Vaughn Alexander is durable but ass Lenox Allen beats both . I can see Ulises Sierra beating both too . That being said I do think Bek is the real deal but this is not only a big step up fight he's also going up in weight . Much respect to Bek win, lose or draw I'm a fan now.

The Collard win would be far more impressive if he hadn't gone from 174 to 147 right after.

Whoa, I had no idea Clay fought last week and lost...

Clay has been a fun watch don't get me wrong, but he's not a contender or anything close to it. He kinda turned himself into a prospect, with a ugly record, by doing what he did doe.

Amateur game is different than the pro game. And in the pro game his best W by a mile is at 168. Thats just what it is. Not dogging the guy just giving facts there.

I think GBP is more in a desperate situation where they gotta try to create some more guys people care about since Canelo left. I suspect we will see Vergil & others have bigger jumps in competition soon. Ryan gots the big jump up next month too. GBP needs to take some risks. And if Bek wins this he'll be a top ten guy outta nowhere & a name folks start learning to pronounce.

Still nothing in this fight for Kov but a check. But like I keep saying that maybe all he's interested in now at age 37.

Lenox Allen and Sierra ain’t nothing more than filler bro, and no neither of them are beating Alexander or Collard on their best night. However, you’re right Bek is the goods he’ll have his opportunity to prove it against Kov next month

Don’t see Golden Boy doing anything different than they’ve been doing. No other promotional company matches their prospects as difficult as them. I mean they just put two of their best 147 lbs prospects in Ellis & Rocha against one another. I do think they will push Vergil for a title shot next yr and deservedly so, kid is rank in the Top 10 on 3 of the 4 sanctioning organizations @ 147.
