  • Comments Thread For: Canelo-Smith: DAZN Partners With Cable Companies; Offering Fight On PPV, DAZN Sub For $69.99

The sports streaming company that predicted the demise of pay-per-view in boxing has taken on pay-per-view partners for its biggest boxing event of 2020. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the card headlined by the Canelo Alvarez-Callum Smith super middleweight title fight Saturday night at Alamodome in San Antonio will be made available via pay-per-view, as well as through DAZN. If consumers purchase the Alvarez-Smith show through traditional cable operators, they can watch five fights on the Alvarez-Smith card on their televisions and will receive a four-month subscription to DAZN for a suggested retail price of $69.99.

Good, there are people that complain about the APP and not wanting to watch the fights through the app, so well now they can purchase it like they do any other PPVs. I believe the WWE even with their network still offer PPVs through cable/satellite companies.

This also will allow for the Joshua/Fury fight to take place on a co-PPV with ESPN and DAZN. Good stuff.

I’m surprised it’s taken DAZN this long to figure this out.

The WWE’s streaming network is perfect model to try and replicate.

10000%. Give the folks the option to subscribe to the streaming network as well as give others the option to purchase stand alone PPVs for Canelo fights. The younger generation will likely watch it off the app and then the older generation who are opposed to apps can still purchase the PPV like they would any other Canelo PPV before he got to DAZN. Win-win situation. And LIS, it allows for a Co-promotion PPV for Joshua/Fury. It was only a matter of time for this to happen.

70 bucks is not bad for this matchup. It’s the Ring Mag champ at 168 vs the top draw in the sport, for super middleweight supremacy. People who already subscribe to DAZN get it for no extra cost. Those who aren’t can either subscribe or pay for a PPV. I think this is pretty damn smart on DAZN’s part. Streamers gonna stream, but business moves forward.

Seems like a common sense way to approach it and this probably should have been the model right from the jump.

I don't care what promotion, what provider or what approach...I just want more content readily accessible.

This is a smart move by DAZN. Surprised they didn’t do this any sooner.
