Will people ever STOP OVERRATING old primitive era boxers with little skill?

I just got finished reading a RING MAGAZINE article from a few years in degust, for several different reasons. One being how ring magazine and many boxing fans/journalist/critiques, disregard the EYE TEST.

For example, this particular had Jack Dempsey as the 5th greatest heavyweight of all time . Dempsey in his prime was 190 pounds, had no skill (neither did his opponents) and would get CRUSHED by an average amateur middleweight of today?

I recall one idiot (FROM THIS MESSAGE BOARD) saying how fighters were so great back then "because they fought 30-40 rounds". The reason they were able to fight all those rounds was because they didn't do anything but circle each other and hold. If you fight 30 rounds in a Boxing match that means your not doing anything.

Logic gets thrown out the window when it comes to old primitive boxers.

Will people ever stop overrating old fighters from the past?

No. People like to romanticize the past as if it was an encapsulation of an enchanted and mythical time. Fact is athletes are continuously improving, along with science based training. I give up. lol

I was mostly with you about a 190 pound fighter being crushed by the heavyweights of today.

When you went on to suggest that he had no skill, you just sounded ignorant.

Dempsey literally wrote the book on boxing you ignorant clown:

This book is a bible for combat sports athletes of all sorts to this very day.

His power punching, come forward, bob and weave style was the prototype for Mike Tyson.

He may be physically outmatched by today's fighters but Jack Dempsey's technique and tactics are the foundation of modern boxing.

              pretty fkn dumb man

ATG ranking does not compare a particular fighter, with fighters from a different era

ATG ranking is determined by how a fighter compared to his peers, and what he achieved historically

that typical casual-fan nonsense is pretty fkn dumb man lol

                I agree.

It’s also funny how they didn’t even know how to throw combinations during Dempsey’s time yet he’s ranked so highly lol

he would be a light-heavyweight/cruiser... and no, he would not be outmatched... he would adapt/develop accordingly

we know that by what he achieved... he rose to the top and ruled

casual fans are dumb as shlt

but great post, good one !

                    No they won't.

Literally every other sport the athletes today blow away their counterparts from the olden days and it's accepted as fact, but boxing fans want to say Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis would rule today.

It's total nonsense, you may find fighters from past eras more visually appealing, I can understand that but it doesn't mean they would reign today.

It's trendy to hate on whatever we have now though, it makes you appear like more of a boxing hipster to say Jack Dempsey would wipe the floor with Tyson Fury, lol.
