I recall one idiot (FROM THIS MESSAGE BOARD) saying how fighters were so great back then "because they fought 30-40 rounds". The reason they were able to fight all those rounds was because they didn't do anything but circle each other and hold. If you fight 30 rounds in a Boxing match that means your not doing anything.

Logic gets thrown out the window when it comes to old primitive boxers.

Demsey and other fighters like him aren't overrated. They dominated the other fighters in their eras. Fighters that trained in a similar manner and fought under the same interpretation of the rules. Sports sciences have evolved so comparing fighters from different eras isn't reasonable. It's fun though and makes for lively discussions..

      thanks man

only a little boxing knowledge was required to make that post

      most of it was common-sense

both of those things are seriously lacking from the many casuals in this forum

Jack Dempsey would beat up Joshua and Furry at the same time.

Dempsey's fight IQ alone.... People think that athletes are dumb jocks with no brains. The truly great have both physical and MENTAL talents...

I don't give a **** about Dempsey writing a book, GO LOOK AT A DEMPSEY FIGHT. Then again, you probably don't know anything about the sweet science.

Dempsey's fight look like a tough man competition.

The reason Dempsey was elite in his day was because of his aggression and athletic ability. Dempsey was the first fighter to go in and with reckless abandon try to knock you out.

Dempsey was trash, and so were the rest of those guys. The first heavyweight to had any kind of skill was Paterson

The grass is aways greener on the other side so they say lol, the present is always under estimated and the good old day over estimated.

There is much science about how the brain embellishes memory over time.

The OP also said that Roberto Duran didn't beat anybody good at lightweight. Let's think about that...
