Why Top Guys Fight Twice Per Year Instead of 3

It isn’t like no one would watch if they fought a third time each year

Guessing it’s partly down to available budget to pay them

Because one of their two fights is usually a super fight, which counts as two regular fights.

Not to be confused with a MEGA FIGHT, which counts for three reggies and two supers.

          In addition to budget, injuries.

Probably because the fighters of today and their financial demands arent in line with their ROI to promoters/network's. Theres a reason all of PBC's most recent decent matchups with their A-list fighters have gone to PPV and it's not because they're ppv "stars"...its to cover the cards cost and limit potential financial loses.

Thankfully good ole Bob was able to get ESPN to invest and give us a few great cards without a $80 price tag...DAZN as well.

              This.

I don't think all these fighters are saying I fight 2x max a year. I think there are only so many dates & so much money for dates & the bigger name you are the less opportunity you have to snatch up an extra date or two.

Granted guys could take less money, but I'd argue most folks upon reaching a certain height of success in their career don't work for less money very often for professions far less dangerous than boxing.

I'm not actually sure when the last fella who fought 3 or more times as a champion was.

I know Marciano too only fought twice a year as champ, that's 50s...pretty long time ago. I think it might just be this way because we've accepted twice a year from the champions for a long time, but, I hardly know **** on this subject.

you dont have to a ppv star to do a ppv....tons of guys have gone from never doing a ppv to doing their first "ppv"....floyd was once a guy without a ppv until he did one....so was golovkin.....and many others.....tank and the charlo brothers doing ppvs is called a career "arc"...the charlos are 30...it was time if they were going to ever do it....tank davis has had an accelerated career arc...they had him on showtime headlining cards when most were still card support...they had him as main support to the floyd/mcregor fight...so him getting a ppv was basically in line with how they have moved him..plus he proved he could fill seats in two different cities

one doenst have to be a ppv star to do their FIRST ppv....everything is unprecedented till it happens for the first time

Yea for sure,I get that it's a career path all promoters will eventually explore if they see the potential there...but let's not pretend the high number of ppvs across all promotional boards recently are because of the high returns/profits on them either. IMHO its because it's the only way for these cards to come off.
