I guess in the UK you need 4-5 months to train for a fight. Here in the states, we just need 4-5 weeks to kick your butt. The cream will rise to the top

“But Joe Gallagher’s a very experienced trainer, so hopefully Callum’s been under the impression of the news for a long time that he’s been fighting Canelo."

Hearn should've told Smith to be ready to fight, regardless of the opponent. He's the one that was in the negotiations!

Do you think Canelo prepares for 5 weeks? Or could it be that he knows who he'll fight weeks before they complete negotiations and start training then? Being a boxing superstar has its perks, you know. He did the same with Kovalev. I don't see Smith winning tbh. Canelo's true kryptonite was GGG, which is why he fought him when GGG was 35. When it comes to A-level fighters Canelo's tactics is to put them in disadvantage position be it waiting for them to start slipping or play games like 5 weeks training camp, rehydration clauses and so on.

Seriously? How many examples can you list of championship level fights when a US fighter prepared for 5 weeks and beat a British fighter who prepared for 8 or 12?

there's been rumours of Callum Smith being the next Canelo opponent for months now so Callum has probably been in a half-camp mode - unlike Saunders who is probably on the booze and crisps until the day a fight gets signed.

                    Who's the casual?

Since going life and death with Lara Canelo has looked for opponents to show weaknesses before fighting them.

                    Golovkin > Brook and Jacobs
                    Kovalev > Ward and Alvarez
                    Smith > Ryder

                    see the pattern?

I’m sure Smith has been training longer than that. He seems like a responsible guy and being the WBA champ, he knows it’s a responsibility to stay in shape and that he has to stay on his toes. I’m rooting for Smith to give Canelo hell and make him dig deep.
