The balance you need to not get thrown to the ground. Which is the point of judo, throwing people to the ground. It's not the same balance used in boxing. That determines your offensive/defensive strategies in judo vs boxing.Comment

I was a Modern Army Combatives instructor with the US Army. MAC is a blend of BJJ, Judo, Silat, and Kali-Escrima. When I got out I was on Team Tooke MMA here in Texas. I’m too old for all that now and prone to injuries as I’m retired twice. In terms of balance, Judo, Sumo, and Greco-Roman wrestling are the best grappling/tumbling disciplines I have come across and it so very hard to get any of the three off their feet while trapping and attempts to take down or throw. Judo is the parent sport of BJJ, and has almost as many submissions as BJJ particular above the waste. In any event, yeah, been in martial arts since I was seven, my goal as a sprog was to make the British TKD team but it didn’t happen. But anyway, thanks for checking on me. Although in the future just relax lad. If you want to ask me something just so it like a normal fella. We don’t know each other and there’s no need for histrionics.Comment

Well done. I was hoping someone else realised what I was talking about. A lot of younger people sleep on Judo, particularly Newaza.Comment

Matt Larsen is the father of the MAC program was it was born officially in the early 2000s, he instructs it still and had a line of training vids. He is the ultimate Soldier. A proper service infantry Marine, prior service Army Ranger (SOF), and has forgotten more about fighting disciplines than any of us will ever know. Larsen really has legendary status in the US Army and Marines, was training in what would later be called MMA back in the 80s. What I love about Matt is early on he blended boxing with thaiboxing and Judo before it was popular to do so. You won’t find a Ranger especially who doesn’t worship at the altar of Larsen when it comes to close combat. You can also find some good instruction from MSG Tim Kennedy, a Ranger qualified Special Forces Soldier who is a former MAC champion as well as his exploits in Strikeforce and UFC. You won’t go wrong with either. At the higher levels though MAC employs more Penchat Silat and Kali Escrima and uses the M4/M16 rifle/carbine, M9 bayonet, and E-tool more than it mirrors a sport MMA system. Which of courses shows the Ranger influence on the fighting system.Comment

So she’ll be able to develop and if she gets caught in arm bar or something in the first fight, she is still in contention for the millionComment

PFL from what I remember before COVID, have like 10 fighters per division and they have “regular season, post season, championships” of fights and the champs get 1 million .
