Only reason you are saying AJ quit is to disrespect him, could easily argue he was trying buy time to recover, he wouldn't be the only fighter to use that exact tactic.

The thing is, Joshua quit against Ruiz and he wasn't even injured unlike DDD/Brook

Nice piece,boxing is a sport not a gladiator battle,if you feel your health is at risk,do the needful and live to fight another day and don't ever criticize a boxer's choice in the ring if you have never laced up a pair of gloves and fought in the ring before..I would have kept on going but he made his choice which is ok,casualties are reduced if boxers had that mentality and that ultimately supersedes being ******ly brave at the detriment of your own health,there's life after boxing

Yeah he has more balls 99.9% of people because he gets in the ring but the comparison isn’t with the average man. He signed up to the fight game.

There’s a lot of fighters out there that wouldn’t go out like that.

He quit, so in the context of boxing, he is a quitter based upon his last performance. People just need to say it how it is.

He did quit, that is an established fact and obvious to any one that has watched and understands boxing.

I don't blame him, he was getting embarrassed and dropped numerous times and looked foolish, he was embarrassed, fighting in a foreign country.... maybe some problems behind the scenes..... it all built into him turning his back on the ref and then lazing on the ropes trying to save face.

I still have the same respect for him I did before he quit....... same with Dubois...... these guys are fighters and even the hardest men in the world can wilt under pressure......... seen it happen to many a hard man in my life, even the military at 16-20 years old.

Joshua was embarrassed and looking for a way out, he used that "tactic" to quit, so people like you can claim he didn't.

AJ didn’t respond to the ref. He stood back with his arms on the ropes and didn’t follow instructions that he clearly heard.

He quit too. Just wanted out and waited to be waved off.

Fair enough, if you don’t wanna fight on, get out of there. But it will keep getting easier and easier to quit once you do it.

A journalist telling us Dubois is no quitter means very little he clearly quit so is a quitter.

Why didn’t the doctor inspect Dubois eye during the fight?

Dubois quit because he knew his corner wouldn’t pull him out as they manage as well as train him and have invested a lot of money in him.

Brilliant article. I think professional fighters have it embedded in their minds that one quit is the end, that's their strategy for never quitting in their own fight, but Duran quit and then went on to show as much heart as any fighter, I hope Dubois comes back, has an even tougher fight, and doesn't quit.

When a fighter quits, he pays the price without the unnecessary response, from both the keyboard warriors who have never fought, and professional fighters. McLellan and Colon have been left permanently damaged, sacrificed their own quality of life, they still got accused of quitting.

When people label you a quitter, the only way is up from there........ don't quit next time.

"Once a quitter always a quitter" is BS..... people change and learn..... or many times I have seen people over-exert themselves trying to prove they are tough.

Many a great movie has the protagonist be an unlikely-hero..... someone who was a coward their whole life and then sacrifices themselves selflessly and shows great bravery.

Too many times that has happened in history IRL that I will NEVER believe any one is incapable of showing heart and courage..... even after quitting or showing cowardice before.

DDD quit, the reasons behind the quit are what defines you.

Brook quit against Spence, Joshua quit against Ruiz........... doesn't mean I don't understand why they did or respect them any less.

They are fighters, and not everyone is built to fight until the death when under that pressure.

DDD is a young pup to me, over a decade younger......... his future is not defined by this, he can learn and use this to enforce his psyche.

Yes, I know what you're saying here. But, depending on the extent of the fracture, its could have a severely detrimental effect going forward, especially for a heavyweight. However, more importantly, it depends what effect quitting will have upon Dubois mind. His corner could have saved him from that imo.

The Japanese would revoke Daniel Dubois boxing license for bending the knee, DDD would be considered a disgrace according to Samurai culture.

Honorable warriors, Kosei Tanaka and Naoya Inoue did not surrender to their rivals or give into horrible pain after suffering career threatening orbital bone injuries EARLY in their fights vs. Rangsan Chayanram & Nonito Donaire.

They endured repeated excruciating painful solid blows over and over. In contrast, Daneil Dubois got popped in the eye with a jab, with only two rounds to left.

Tanaka and Inoue are world-champions, who will be going into the HOF, DDD will be remembered for being a quitter.
