British media is pathetic, didn’t even question Dubois quitting

Haye's a bit like Froch, they're supporting cast members of BT/Sky Sports boxing coverage and they're not the "talking heads"/journalists who shape public perception. You'll notice the garden variety boxing fans opinion of certain fighters is often shaped by said fighters media coverage, not opinions from former fighters.Comment

Trust me, I'm well aware of how the UK pundits operate and cater towards the network's favorites. But all I was saying is that Frampton AND Haye did say Dubois quit after the fight when the thread was about the British media not questioning Dubois quitting. That's all.Haye's a bit like Froch, they're supporting cast members of BT/Sky Sports boxing coverage and they're not the "talking heads"/journalists who shape public perception. To be fair someone like Richie Woodhall will never call a guy a quitter. He's too classy.
And for us we let our ex boxers make those statements on air and the other two pros did. You want the guy calling the round to call the a kid who has been clubbed to submission a quitter? Even though the most adversity he's faced that evening is the runner asking him what food they can get him at the production meeting.
Nah. I think we generally have it right.
We revere our athletes.
In the US you had a senile old man talking s.hit for years about some of the world's greatest fighters.Comment

Name one uk media outlet or person who said eubank won that fight. You are lying. Didn't happen.Comment

I recently re-watched Foreman vs Moorer (which, incidentally, shared some similarities to tonight's fight in the slow, methodical way in which George broke Moorer down - albeit at a much higher level) and I was struck by just how terrible Merchant was even way back then. Constantly interrupting the fighters during their interview, never letting them finish an answer. The man's just regained the heavyweight title in his mid-40s Larry, let him get a word in ffs.
It's a marvel that he kept that job for so long. I know he was an institution on HBO, but that's not the same thing as being any good.Comment

Someone like him just wouldnt succeed in British sports coverage.
We do have pundits who haven't fought at any decent level like Steve Bunce who did fight amateur but it is a truth universally acknowledged that they must respect the fighters.
Maybe in real life he was a nice guy but as a boxing personality I always thought Merchant was a dreadful guy and I'm surprised nobody just ironed him out.Comment
