Berlanga still has not fought a top 100 fighter in the very weak 168 division. Hype and cherry picking to the extreme. Sierra #158 boxrec. I am guessing Berlanga 50-1 favorite?

Good call. I think you may be right about people (myself included) overrating Nakatani based off of a poor performance from Teo. My eyes did tell me 3 things that I figure to be universal truth about Nakatani:It has Berlanga RD KO written all over it IMO.

Yeah that’s an interesting fight. I really favoured Commey to stop Verdejo before he pulled out, I’m unsure whether Nakatani has the power to beat him. I’ve got a feeling we may be slightly overrating Nakatani based off a poor performance from Teofimo. Sink or swim time for Verdejo though.
 1) he's tall, 2) he has a chin and 3) he will come forward.

The fact Nakatani appears to have briefly retired and the unretired after the Teo fight is a red flag.

If Verdejo fights to his potential, it's should be a straight forward win. If Verdejo has an off night against Nakatani, I don't think he will prevail like Teo was able to do.Comment

Ulises Sierra sounds like he will be a good opponent, 15-1-2 (9KO's).
He's never been stopped, only loss was by decision to a undefeated Russian, who had 300 amateur fights. We'll find out on 12/12/20, if he was a good opponent, the one to take him rounds, test his chin, or even to beat him. I believe he'll become the 16th knockout victim on Berlanga's record. That being said his following fight on March of 2021, he's going to have to step up, and fight someone in the top 100. Then for his 18th fight in June of 2021, he'll definitely have to fight someone in the top 50. Then for his 19th fight in September of 2021, he should be fighting one of the champions in the 168 pound division for the title. Although the 1st round knockouts look fantastic on record, they wont help prepare him for fights against the elite level in his division. He needs to be matched against better opposition, I don't know if Sierra will be the beginning of that process. But Bob Arum is going to have to find those better opponents for Berlanga. This isn't Eric "Butterbean" Esch whom you were milking for all you can get, while the getting was good. Berlanga is possibly a future superstar, you have to give him progressive challenges. You can't take one step forward, and then two steps back thats a strategy that'll set up Berlanga for failure. If you truly believe in him, you must match up with competitive opponents whom will present him with considerable struggles in the ring.Comment

I thought Bellows would give a good look. 29 pro fights and never been knocked down. Hope this gives the kid some rounds.Okay this one is for real.

Ulises Sierra has been professional for eight years and only lost one fight (on points) to Vladimir Shishkin, a talented Russian boxer with over 300 amateur victories. Mexican American Ulises is coming to school Puerto Rican Berlanga and catapult himself to big money fights and eventually a title shot.Comment

knockdowns in the second and the fourth rounds are not "catching someone cold"Berlanga is the future. He would destroy Plant now. Who the **** has plant beat? But a fold Uzcategui? Thats how he got those early knockdowns which the PBC is known to create advantages for their fighters like catching fighters cold n tell em is time to fight when you’re the b side. Uzcategui left his face red meat n looked beat up plat did cause Uzca was cold. Imagine on even ground Berlanga would eat his food now!Comment

Based off the Teofimo fight alone I’d favour Nakatani as I think his consistent pressure would overwhelm Verdejo. However, I just think that’s too small of a sample size to confidently pick him.Good call. Agree witch all 3. Also think he showed a good jab against Lopez.

Verdejo is talented but he often flatters to deceive, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head in saying it all depends whether Verdejo fights to his potential cause I think he’s gonna need to.Comment

He had already been KO'd by Carson Jones 6 years prior to that. Jones was his first loss and he had 5 losses already entering the Plant bout. That was also his debut at super middleweight if I remember correctly. Either way, the point is that it's not like Plant stopped that run - 3 others had TKO'd him prior while Plant settled for a decision.Last edited by bori84; 11-26-2020, 05:04 AM.Comment
