It's a very well managed career he only fight opponent under his watch/terms(aka cherry pick) as what some boxing legends say.

Atleast floyd had an exciting fight in his last fight against a boxer with no win no draw and no lose.

Instead of the most overrated he’s the most over-hated boxer in history.

I didn’t like Mayweather, I think he’s a narcissistic attention wh*** but he deservedly retired undefeated and people really need to get over it.

As you say it’s been 5 years since he had a real fight and we still get multiple disparaging threads a week. People are obsessed.

world class fighter however heavily overrated by his fanbase. theres a strong case for him losing 3 fights, and 2 of them not exactly against great opposition (way past prime de la hoya and b-level maidana). Always found his fights strange to watch, a lot of the time he didnt land a lot of great punches himself but rounds would automatically get scored for mayweather. in the pacquaio mayweather fight neither guy offered an awful lot, yet thats gone down as some masterclass mayweather performance. even the canelo fight (which he weight drained him in) its gone down as some 12 round beat down yet what did mayweather actually do that was so amazing apart from run around a lot and land a few jabs? also made a habit of putting his opponents at disadvantage weight wise (for example dragging marquez up and then not bothering to try and make weight), i think chosing to close out his career against berto and mcgregor says everything you need to know about his attitude
