As for Holyfield, he looked okay. He was energetic and had quick hands in the first round. However, he looked old once the adrenaline wore off in the second. He still could finish the job because he wasn't fighting anyone, but his hands were noticeably slower. Also, I don't like how he took the one shot Bates landed. It didn't necessarily hurt him, but considering the caliber of fighter Bates is, it probably shouldn't have stopped him in his track for 30 seconds. If Bates was capable of throwing more, aka if he was a fighter and not an insurance salesman, that would have been a really interesting and really trying time for Holyfield. But alas, Bates is all... salesman.

    I 2nd that ... all of that.

I only saw one good punch delivered to Holyfield. it was an over hand right that sent Holyfield back hard. i don't think it was fixed. Before the fight they asked Bates was he nervous, and he was like "yeah,it's Holyfield."

As far as Tyson and Mcbride,I think Foreman said it best"You can't send Mike in with a giant in a comeback match.Give him someone his height and size." the same thing happened with jack Johnson, they sent a giant out to him when he got old. and he lost! i agree still Holyfield has more heart than Mike.Mike's expectations are too high,if he can't get the job done quick his frustration sets in.(ha)

The difference between Holyfield and Tyson is Holyfield loves to fight and doesn't want to stop. Tyson stopped loving fighting a long time ago, and only kept going because people wanted him to, and he didn't know how to do anything else.

holyfield just needs to schedule a title fight while he still has time (if any). its only gonna get harder as he gets older. last night i saw some quickness that wasent there in his last 3 fights. it looks like hes the best shape hes been in years so i think now would be his best shot. if valuev wins his next fight, i think he would be holyfields best shot at a belt.

IMO last night Holyfield looked pretty sharp, albeit against a limited opponent who's record shows that he's lost 1 in 3 of all his fights.

Having said that, I think that having a two year layoff helped Holyfield get healthy and back into shape. The problem with Holyfield is that he has always fought at the championship level of boxing and never really got a chance to step down, relax, and fight some lower tiered opponents or "easy fights."

Right now I would like to see Holyfield take his time and fight at least another two guys like Bates before he steps up to fight someone top ranked.

Evander has made up his mind that he's coming back and making another title run and I support him 100%, I just hope that he doesn't step up too quickly against someone who can really end his career.

He did look pretty quick and I like the fact that he went right for the KO instead of getting some rounds in and prolonging the fight. Infact I think that this should be Holyfields new strategy, get in there early and look for the knockout instead of fighting a "war of attrition."

Holyfield was not an an early finisher in his fights really since the Buster Douglas fight and that is almost 16 years ago now. I didn't see the fight with Bates but from what I've read, he seemed much more aggressive than he did in past recent fights. Maybe that is a change in his fighting style and, if he can stay healthy and not have shoulder and back and whatever else problems, then maybe he can do something in this HW division, especially if his speed has improved from recent fights.

I would have learned just as much if I'd watched Evander ****ing on the heavybag in his gym. I just hope Jeremy Bates can live with himself for letting this opportunity to pass him by.

It's over, the fat lady's drinking lemon juice because her throat is sore from singing. Evander will lose against the first Top 20 opponent he faces; and a Top Tenner will KHTFO for the first time in his career since Bowe did it. It' over, folks...accept it.
