It's not that he's the only ref in Texas, it's just that his father is **** Cole, the Texas Boxing Commissioner.

Found that interesting so looked it up,looks like he retired a few years back but apparently Lawrence Cole owns an insurance company that provides medical insurance policies to boxing promoters to cover their fighters incase of injury. More than likely its just him taking advantage of his affiliation with the sport but.......

Canelo is so far ahead of any boxer. Khan vs Brook had more noise because THERE WAS SOME DOUBT about the “it factor” for Brook having SOME chance. Smith is bigger, undefeated, has the belts Canelo needs, the #1 168 guy. The Canelo haters somehow continue to add more crying even when the venue has been announced. Then you get the “oh Texas and Canelo ahhhh” lol.

Not just that, but his father was putting him in huge title fights when he was young, so there isn't a ref in the state even close to Cole's experience. So he gets the call for big fights even though all his "experience" is being awful.
