You're not seriously trying to use a first rd ko of Fielding as proof that Smith is a good fighter, are you????

Why does it have to be hate? Couldn't we just be disappointed that a fighter of Canelos caliber didn't chose a better opponent?

Last year folks were all a dither that Canelo was ducking Smith, that Smith would destroy him, and so on. Now that he is scheduled to fight Smith, Smith is a bum, Canelo is cherry-picking, avoiding Caleb Plant, and so on. After Canelo cuts a deal with Haymon and is scheduled to fight Plant the same jackazzes will complain that he is cherry-picking Plant and avoiding Charlo. When Canelo is scheduled to fight Charlo after Plant, the same people will be saying he is avoiding Beterbiev, Joshua, avoiding Rocky Marciano, avoiding Jack Johnson and Andre the Giant and so on.

Canelo's response here is pretty much all you need to know about this fight. He wouldn't have taken it if he felt threatened by it. He simply wants a fight before the end of the year.

knowing canelo i hardly doubt that anyone at 168 will make him feel threatened... now 175 it could be a different story but i woudnt bet on it since we are talking about the same guy that at 22yo firmly believed he will outbox floyd freaking mayweather...

Hes scared ****less of Beterbiev. Smith is a winnable fight or he wouldn't have taken it.

Beterbiev. You know the guy he avoided at 175. You know because he won a belt at 175 from the worst champion.

He won a ****ing belt at 175. How can you justify him not fighting at 175. He pulled this same **** after he fought Cotto. Belt grab and nothing more.

That's the most desirable option, and hopefully it's a bit more realistic now that Canelo is a free agent. There were promotional issues before but we'll see what happens.

While I agree that Beterbiev is better than Kovalev at this point, The Kovalev fight was both easier to make and more lucrative so I understand it. Hopefully we will see Canelo's opponent pool widen now that he's not tied to anyone.
