Comments Thread For: Canelo: We Didn't Want 2020 To End Without a Fight

It was officially announced on Tuesday that Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will take on Callum Smith for the WBA super middleweight title on Saturday December 19, live on DAZN. Alvarez (53-1-2 36 KOs) is back in action for the first time since knocking out Sergey Kovalev in November 2019 in Las Vegas, ripping the WBO light heavyweight title from the Russian to become a four weight champion.

DAZN wouldn't approve Callum Smith as a premier opponent. But now they do?

It looks like Eddie Hearn just wanted to screw Oscar De La Hoya over and get him out of the picture.

Would be terrible for Boxing to not have the Face of Boxing not fight!

OK, so he's fighting a guy who really deserved to lose to Ryder while Ryder is a guy who lost to Fielding....and this is your king?

Who should he be fighting instead that’s a realistic option?

Would rather see benevidez or plant but this would do. Canelo really knows how to cherry pick em. I dont know much of smith only seen 2 fights of his vs kb legend Nieky Holzken under boxing rules and his fight against ryder. Both of em he looks very beatable by any class fighters. Im not going fielding level beat down but similar after rd 2 taking into account full camps verse novice boxers and gatekeepers didnt look impressive then u fighting canelo 3 week camp plus gotta travel far for it. Yeah unless smith knew about this fight months prior this is another cherry pick for canelo. Look for em to give the ggg 3rd fight after this maybe even at 168 if ggg wins but in beatable form again. Especially if going back to ppv again for ppv down in general sales are down. GGG the highest selling fight for canelo to justify 35m plus purse unless mayb canelo vs beterbiev(ko artist) theyll hype him up as the 2012-18 ggg but of light heavy division i can see that selling 1m plus in these days ppv market. Outside crossover vs the mcgregor n masdival theyll give canelo highest ppv. Ofcourse mcgregor vs pac or canelo doing 2.5m views above even nowdways. .

Everybody has bad nights, get over it. Ryder and fielding are bums and nobody cares.

Callum Smith is one of the best out of Britain right now.
