Smith is a solid fighter that could pose some problems for Canelo? Is he great? Of course not, but that's why the fight is good and nothing more. However, to say being a top 3 P4P comes with high expectations is fine and all, but who do we hold to those standards aside from Canelo? Is Crawford fighting this type of competition? Should we expect Crawford to go up to 154 and face someone like Charlo? When Lomachenko was fighting Crolla or even Campbell, was there no expectations for him? How about for Golovkin when he was top 3 P4P?

To say you want him to face Beterbiev or Bivol is fine and all, but if he wants to campaign at 168 right now and even 160 for the right fights, then no problem. His first option was Caleb Plant another very good SMW but the fight just couldn't get done for December.

If you expect the fight to be tightly contested, which is possible, then that's great right? That's what we want as fans?
I don't feel like I hate on Canelo really. I like him as a fighter and he seems like a guy I would enjoy hanging out with. I saw recently he loves golf which I love too, so seeing that gave me some more love for him.

I do feel like he is a bit selective with his opponents - good names but knows he can at least hang with them and won't get KOed (apart from the GGG fights, I give him props for both of those 100%), and knows they are safe enough fights and he can add a name to the resume. Following the Money May blueprint in a way.

I'm not mad at him though. It would be dumb to face Beterbiev for the same money and possibly get beat or KOed and lose a lot of future earnings potential.

I guess if I had to rank opponents for Canelo next (leaving GGG out because without a crowd that fight isn't happening), I would put Smith up there with anyone.

I guess it is just unfortunate that Smith had such a poor showing last time out. Besides Bivol and Beterbiev, everyone else possible has some downside too though. Charlo a little unproven, Andrade too etc.

Not long ago here posters we’re saying that Canelo wouldn’t fight someone like Callum Smith. And now that he’s doing it those same posters are claiming he’s cherry picking.

            GREAT fight

Canelo taking the best challenge available at 168

he'll be DWARFED by Smith, who's quite bigger than Rocky Fielding and by all means, is a weight bully who should be fighting at LHW

ginger will be fighting an undefeated champion in his prime who is much bigger and powerful

THIS is why Canelo is the face of boxing and P4P king, nobody else is taking these kind of challenges

            WAR BOSSNELO

Because DAZN has no choice but to do whatever Canelo says. They have NOTHING in the US that will move subscriptions. Canelo kept stressing he wanted to fight before the end of the year. ESPN has ZERO fights for him and PBC has a PPV on 12/5 and Nonito fight on 12/19 so a deal with them wasn't feasible. DAZN had no choice but to sacrifice Smith and his belt to try and stay relevant in the US, but it wont work. After Canelo gets the WBA strap he's going to go the PBC/PPV route. First fight Yildilim to get the WBC to become unified champ so he can justify being the 'A side' (as if he really needs to justify anything). Then Deverychenko - Plant - Benevidez - Dirrell - Charlo megafight- Spence megafight - Pacquiao megafight - Conor megafight. He easily crushes Mayweather's earnings if he sticks with Al. Haymon even allows him to go to other platforms for the Beterbiev and Bivol fights. DAZN, out of pure desperation, will have no choice but to stage their last two meaningful US fights (Devin v Ryan and 3G v Andrade). After that it's all over for DAZASTER!

That Ryder fight got Smith this payday. Smart choice by Canelo.

People are actually counting out Smith because of the Ryder fight? lol. I promise you he learned from that fight & won't allow any of that s*** to happen again.

Interesting, De La Hoya got **** by Canelo, and was Robert Diaz fault, the ineptitude couldn't handle Canelo responsibility properly and cost the company millions....
